Last weekend I took a very advanced figure sculpting class with Sachiko Windbiel, the brilliant international artist behind Mimicafe Union (). She teaches all over the world, has won many cake competitions, and her figures are absolutely adorable.
I still have a lot of work to do when it comes to figure sculpting, especially when it comes to painting Small details, like faces, with edible paints. I'm still very happy with how my figure turned out, but it is nowhere near the level of our professional! The class was for a full day, and I wasn't able to finish in class which is why I'm posting a little later. I wanted to make sure I finished her before I put up a post. I learned so much in this class that I can apply to a lot of things that I do, not just figure sculpting. I am completely self-taught when it comes to cake art. And although I do have a background in art and a degree, only so much transfers into cake artistry. It's really nice to have a professional show me some new tips and tricks that I will be using. And I'm so excited to use some of my new skills and try some more advanced figures in the future.
