And just like that, the spirits have returned to the Otherworld for another year.

After four weeks of Samhain celebrations, carved turnips, corn stalks, and a few familiar faces from Irish folklore, our annual takeover has come to an end.

On Halloween itself, we swapped ancient Irish traditions for a good old-fashioned American costume party, and you certainly understood the assignment.

From the wonderfully weird to the downright terrifying, the costumes were a sight to behold, not forgetting our best-dressed guest, who walked away with a $100 bar tab.

Now… time to get Mariah out of the freezer.

As far as we’re concerned, November 1st means we’re officially in the festive season - so it’s time to start planning New Year’s Eve.

This year, we’re keeping things simpler than ever, and it won’t take long to explain. We’ll be open as normal. Yep, that’s it. No tickets, no dress code, no annoying deposits.

Daytime bookings will open two weeks in advance, with doors from 11am - 2am, and walk-ins (and adults) only after 6pm.

Fancy outfits are welcome, and the bar will be stocked with Ch*****ne should you wish to toast the bells at midnight. But if you’d rather wear a tracksuit and drink pints, that’s quite alright with us.

Now, isn’t that a relief?

Today, Ireland mourns the loss of one of its finest athletes.

Ciara Mageean, the middle-distance runner from Portaferry, County Down, has passed away at just 34 years old, following a battle with cancer.

Ciara represented Ireland at two Olympic Games, in Rio and Tokyo, and made history in 2024 when she won gold in the 1500m at the European Athletics Championships in Rome, becoming the first Irish individual European champion since Sonia O’Sullivan.

It was a remarkable achievement, and the culmination of years of dedication, determination, and hard work.

From her early days playing camogie in Portaferry to representing Ireland on the world stage, she carried the hopes of an entire nation with her. She showed young athletes, particularly young women, what was possible through talent, perseverance, and an extraordinary commitment to her sport.

In 2025, Ciara was diagnosed with cancer. In October of this year, she married her longtime partner, Thomas Moran, just weeks before her passing.

We wish we weren't so well acquainted with the devastation cancer can bring to families. It's a cruel disease, and one that has taken far too many people far too soon.

Our deepest sympathies are with Thomas, Ciara's family, her friends, her teammates, and everyone in Portaferry and across Ireland who is grieving her loss.

If there’s ever been a good excuse to keep Austin weird, Halloween has to be it.

Grab your strangest, spookiest costume, and join us tonight as we celebrate Halloween with a wee Irish-American hybrid, combining the ancient traditions of Samhain with a good old-fashioned American costume party.

We’ll be crowning our best-dressed guest at 10pm, with a $100 bar tab up for grabs, so dig out your strangest, spookiest outfit and come scare the bejesus out of us. The weirder, the better.

Sure, you could cover yourself in a white bedsheet and say boo - but that won’t win any prizes around here.

Our Samhain takeover wraps up on November 1st, but there’s one last big hurrah this weekend.

We’ve got a DJ tonight from 10pm - 2am, and as we do every year, we’ll be crowning our best-dressed guest at midnight, with a $100 bar tab up for grabs.

No rules, no guidelines, no stipulations - just come dressed to spook.

The scarier, the better.

10/30/2026

So, what is Samhain, anyway?

No, Tony, it’s not a made-up holiday from a made-up island that we celebrate to make ourselves feel cool - and Aidan’s here to tell us more.

Halloween traces its roots back more than 2,000 years to the ancient Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter, a time when the boundary between this world and the Otherworld was believed to grow thin.

Fast-forward a couple of millennia, and Irish immigrants carried many of their customs across the Atlantic, where old traditions evolved into the Halloween celebrations we know today.

So basically, it’s the OG spooky season - and we’re celebrating tomorrow with a costume party, and the best-dressed guest crowned at 10pm.

At The Dead Rabbit, 100% of our music comes from Irish artists, but much to Liam’s annoyance, not every song makes the cut.

There’s a wealth of contemporary Irish music embracing neo-trad, alternative folk, and darker, more brooding sounds. And while we love it, it’s not necessarily the soundtrack you want while tucking into a corned beef sandwich at 2pm on a Saturday.

What it does lend itself to, though, is spooky season.

With so many Irish artists drawing inspiration from the history, myths, and legends surrounding Samhain, we’ve put together a Halloween playlist that explores the darker side of Irish music, featuring some of the freshest and most exciting artists coming out of the island today.

Our neighbors and teammates at Grá Mór have just launched three new drinks for fall, including a pumpkin number that’s perfect for Halloween weekend.

First up, the Pumpkin Cream Pie Chai combines Minor Figures oat milk and chai with our housemade pumpkin honey syrup, a touch of ginger juice, and vanilla cream.

Banana lovers, the Banana-Chata Latte brings together Andytown espresso, rice and oat horchata syrup, and real banana cream, finished with a dusting of cinnamon.

Last, but by no means least, add a little pep in your step with the Sparkling Apple Crisp, which combines apple c***r cordial, sweet pomegranate grenadine, and a splash of sparkling water.

All treats, no tricks.

10/28/2026

All Night Apple - enjoy it alcohol-free, or add a little boost of booze.

This brand-new autumnal punch brings together warming spices, including Vietnamese cassia, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg, brightened with lemon and apple c***r.

Comforting yet refreshing, it’s made with a base of Three Spirit Nightcap and can be enjoyed just as it is, or with a splash of wh***ey, tequila, vodka, rum, or gin (the list goes on) to take things up a notch.

Available now in The Taproom.

The clue’s in the name - our Sunday Roast is usually reserved for just that - the last day of the week, served to the sound of our live Irish Seisiún.

But occasionally, we make an exception.

On Thanksgiving, one month from today, get it on a Thursday, featuring our hearty, new-and-improved combination of roasted sirloin of beef, bread stuffing, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese gratin, roasted vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, beef gravy, and horseradish cream.

And because no feast is complete without dessert, we recommend following it up with our Irish Coffee Tiramisu or Irish Cream Bread and Butter Pudding.

Enough to make you thankful, indeed.

If you’re spending Thanksgiving in Austin, stop in for our Sunday Roast - yep, on a Thursday.

One month from today, we’ll be making an exception to our ‘Sundays only’ rule, serving up our hearty Prime Rib Roast Dinner with all the trimmings.

Think champ, stuffing, roasted broccoli, creamed cauliflower, Yorkshire pudding, and plenty of onion gravy - and not a dry turkey in sight.

We’re in the thick of spooky season, but there’s only two months to go until Saint Nick does the rounds. Yep, 61 days ’til Christmas, and just three weeks ’til Jingle Jangle takes over the bars.

Planning an office party, family get-together, or Secret Santa swap? The best celebrations happen over great food and world-class drinks, and we’ve got the spaces to match.

From semi-private nooks to fully private rooms, with custom menus, full AV, and a top-tier team to look after you, we’ve got everything you need to make this year’s party one to remember… or forget, depending on how much booze you fancy.

Apple brown butter bread pudding - five booms.

In this autumnal take on the classic, we cook apples in brown butter, bourbon, brown sugar, and cinnamon, then fold them into a rich custard and let the bread soak overnight to absorb all the flavor.

Once baked until golden, we finish with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, bringing a cool contrast to all that warm apple, cinnamon, and bourbon goodness.

Henry Besant used to refer to Jack and Sean as his Irish brothers.

When he passed in 2013, he left an indelible mark on us all, which is why, when we opened at 30 Water Street, we dedicated a small section of The Taproom to his memory. And when we expanded into No. 32, we knew we had to make more room for Henry. He was always larger than life, after all.

Here, in the space where we host our live music, you’ll find tributes to Henry covering the walls, alongside those to friends of his, and ours, whom we’ve lost in the years since.

Don Javier, Tomas Estes, Chris Patino, Wayne Collins, Gary Regan. They’re all here together, and none of them is alone.

And that’s what Henry would have wanted, we think. Though if you’d like to give him a sip of your Tequila while you’re here - well, he’d love that even more, no doubt.

Most people enjoy our Irish Fry with a pint of Guinness or a pot of Barry’s tea, but with Formula 1 returning to Austin from October 22nd - 25th, you might want to take your breakfast up a gear.

Whether you’re here for the race or just along for the ride, make us your pit stop for cocktails, b**r, and food all day.

Get your choice of eggs, white and blood pudding, back bacon, sausage, grilled tomato, potato and soda breads, and Kerrygold butter - available all day, every day, with a plant-based option on offer, too.

Ch*****ne optional, but always recommended.

Time’s running out to join us on the dark side.

Our Samhain takeover is entering its final weeks, and if you haven’t yet seen The Dead Rabbit dressed up for Halloween, now’s your chance.

We’ve swapped pumpkins, spiders, and witches’ hats for corn stalks, wheat sheaves, carved turnips, and characters from Irish folklore, paying tribute to the ancient Irish festival that gave rise to many of the Halloween customs we know today.

And we’re not quite done yet.

On October 31st, we’re throwing our annual costume party, with a DJ from 10pm - 2am and a $100 bar tab up for grabs for our best-dressed guest, crowned at midnight, and there’s no such thing as too much effort.

Our Samhain decorations will remain in place through November 1st, before the spirits retreat to the Otherworld for another year. Come see us before they disappear.

Cúpla Pints is back for Episode Fourteen, and this time we’re handing the taps over to Belfast musician Joshua Burnside, who’s got some rather controversial opinions about pouring Guinness…

Yep, Joshua’s a firm believer in the one-part pour, especially when there’s a flight to catch or a busy bar to contend with. But will his unconventional approach impress our resident pint-pouring judge, Gráinne?

Between bickering, we chat about his love of New York, writing songs since primary school, and his favorite bar back home, The Sunflower. We even get our first live musical performance, although his pints could’ve done with a little more attention than his guitar...

Despite a distinct lack of dome and a few questionable pouring techniques, Joshua walks away with a very respectable 8.7/10.

The one-part pour, though? We’re still not convinced.

Created by Brittany and Tony, Night Owl is the perfect nightcap - or a boozy sipper to kickstart your evening.

After being introduced to Woodford Reserve Double Oaked during a team training, the pair immediately had a fall-inspired Old Fashioned in mind.

Paired with Jameson Black Barrel, it creates a rich, nutty base with notes of vanilla and a lovely oaky finish, while Cap Corse Rouge brings floral, bittersweet notes of candied fruit, cocoa, and spice, balanced by chamomile, raspberry, and honey.

The Mean Fiddler was created over 10 years ago by our very own Jack McGarry, a reimagined Manhattan that brings together Irish wh***ey and Scotch wh**ky.

Green Spot and Compass Box Glasgow Blend Scotch might seem like an unlikely duo, but they work beautifully together, with fresh green apple notes balanced by a lightly peated, honeyed backbone. Add Green Chartreuse, Cocchi Torino, and a touch of cinnamon, and you’ve got everything you love about this 19th-century classic, with a distinctly Dead Rabbit twist.

Green Spot Pot Still Irish Wh***ey, Compass Box Glasgow Blend Scotch, Cocchi Torino, Green Chartreuse, Cinnamon.

How’s that for a cheese pull?

Our new-and-improved Austin Toastie starts with Texas French Bread sourdough, a generous helping of our house-made mustard sauce, pickles, Gruyère, and white cheddar.

But the most important part, says Chef Steve, is our slow-braised pork, cooked with ancho chillies, brown sugar, warming spices, and Magners apple c***r for a little sweetness and a whole lot of flavor.

“Phenomenal,” says Preston.

And we’re inclined to agree.

Christy loves New York City - the cocktails, the coffee, the sights and the sounds - and she knows exactly where to eat and drink around town.

Here, she reveals where to find her favorite Martini (it’s made with cherry blossom and sake), the Brazilian café serving some of the best pastries in the Seaport, her go-to spots for a glass of w**e, and where she’s spending date night.

And if you fancy doing something other than eating and drinking? She’s got a few recommendations for taking in the city, including a quiet little spot overlooking the East River where she goes to think, and a rather distracting walk along the West Side Highway… she’s not watching the men running, promise.

Check our pinned comments for Christy’s full list, and stay tuned for more.

While we’d like to say this is just another day at The Dead Rabbit TX, the Blue Man Group, Uncle Sam, and the Statue of Liberty are, in fact, some of the characters who’ve made an appearance at our annual Halloween costume contest. And we’re doing it all again next week.

Join us on October 31st as we celebrate Halloween with a wee Irish-American hybrid, combining the ancient traditions of Samhain with a good old-fashioned American costume party.

Amongst our Samhain decorations - corn stalks, carved turnips, the Púca, and more - you might just notice a few unusual characters lurking around the bar.

And if you fancy joining them, start planning your outfit. We’ll be crowning our best-dressed guest at 10pm, with a $100 bar tab up for grabs.

Sure, we haven’t even put the turnips out yet, but our minds are on one thing and one thing only - Jingle Jangle.

For the uninitiated, our festive pop-up is now in its fourth year, and has previously seen The Dead Rabbit NY transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with seasonal cocktails and snacks, nostalgic, over-the-top decorations, and a magical Christmas soundtrack.

But things are a little different this year, because we’re taking the show on the road, and Jack’s delighted about it. Promise.

Jingle Jangle launches November 16th at The Dead Rabbit NY, The Dead Rabbit TX, and The Irish Exit NY, followed by San Patricios on November 17th and The Irish Exit ATL on November 24th.

Yep, for the first time ever, we’re bringing a little Jingle Jangle magic to New York City, New Jersey, Austin, and Atlanta.

Five venues, four cities, and a metric sh*t tonne of tinsel. Christmas is coming.

So, is it pie season yet? It’s a resounding yes from us.

On the menu since day one, our Chicken Pot Pie is a firm favorite, and for good reason.

We start with slow-roasted chicken in a rich, creamy gravy, seasoned with rosemary, thyme, parsley, and all the traditional herbs and spices. Then we tuck it all into a flaky pastry shell and bake it until golden brown.

On the side, we’ve creamy mashed potatoes and a generous helping of rich gravy - just say when.
