This week, members of the Ayer Business Alliance joined representatives from the Town of Ayer, MA for a visit to the Town of Hudson to learn more about the success of their Business Improvement District (BID).
A special thank you to Richard from the Town of Hudson for taking the time to give us a tour and share valuable insights into Hudson's BID journey and downtown revitalization efforts.
One of the biggest takeaways from the visit was the importance of building strong, positive relationships with downtown property owners and businesses. Successful BIDs are built on collaboration, communication, and a shared vision for the future.
We also learned that creating a BID is a marathon, not a sprint. Hudson's process took approximately two years, reminding us that meaningful community and economic development takes time and persistence.
Another key lesson was the flexibility a BID can provide. Unlike municipalities, BIDs have greater autonomy to implement projects, hire services, and respond quickly to opportunities that enhance and revitalize their downtown districts.
Thank you to those who participated in the visit:
• Jose Banchs, J&S Business Products, Inc.
• Debra Rivera, Little Bee Bookshop
• Ray Friedlander, Economic Development Director, Town of Ayer
The Ayer Business Alliance looks forward to continuing the conversation about ways to strengthen and enhance our downtown business community and explore opportunities that support local businesses and create a vibrant downtown for all.
