There are moments in life when you realize you can't do it alone.
This is one of those moments.
When I opened Leah's Cakery, I dreamed of creating more than a bakery. I hoped to create a place where people would gather, celebrate life's milestones, catch up with neighbors over coffee, and feel like they belonged. Because of you, that dream became a reality.
Today, we're working to preserve the historic home of Leah's Cakery in the heart of Round Lake Village—not just for our business, but for our entire community within and beyond Round Lake. Historic buildings tell the story of where we've been, and preserving them ensures they'll continue to be part of where we're going.
Anyone who has ever restored an old building knows that you don't truly understand what lies beneath the surface until you begin the work. As we've opened up walls and floors, we've uncovered the kinds of hidden repairs and unexpected costs that are so common with historic buildings. While these discoveries weren't part of the original plan, they're essential to preserving the building safely and giving it the future it deserves.
We're committed to seeing this project through. We're actively pursuing grant funding and exploring every resource available to help offset these costs, but grants take time, and construction doesn't wait. At the same time, we're continuing to operate from our new location so we can keep serving our customers and supporting our incredible staff. Balancing both has brought significant financial challenges.
That's why I have started a GoFundMe.
Asking for help isn't easy, but this bakery has always been bigger than me. It belongs to a community that has embraced us, celebrated with us, and made Leah's Cakery part of their lives. If we've ever been a part of your morning routine, your birthday celebrations, your wedding, your family traditions, or simply a place where you've found comfort over coffee and something sweet, I hope you'll consider helping us preserve this special place.
Every donation, no matter the amount, helps us move one step closer to restoring this beautiful historic building while continuing to serve our community. And if making a donation isn't possible right now, sharing our GoFundMe with your friends and family is a tremendous gift, too.
I can't begin to express how grateful I am for every person who has walked through our doors, encouraged us, shared our story, and believed in this dream. Time and time again, this community has reminded me that we're stronger together, and that gives me hope every single day.
❤️ Thank you for believing in local businesses. ❤️ Thank you for believing in preserving Round Lake Village's history. ❤️ Thank you for believing that places like Leah's Cakery are worth fighting for.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for standing with us as we write the next chapter.
With love and endless gratitude,
Leah ❤️
