Stopped by Merrell Farms today hoping to grab some North Carolina peaches for crème brûlée. They didn't have any NC peaches available, but some South Carolina peaches are going to make a pretty fantastic peach crème brûlée for tonight.
One thing I love about the folks at Merrell Farms is how honest and kind they are with their customers. I wasn't looking for a discount, but they insisted anyway. That's the kind of business you remember.
While I was there, I picked up some local watermelons for tonight's mojitos and got excited hearing about the next crop of flat beans and squash blossoms on the way. I also spotted some beautiful fresh okra I'll definitely be back for. And those Cherokee Purple tomatoes? They instantly had me craving a BLT for breakfast.
You've got to love supporting your community and the wonderful people in it. You can often find them at the Olde Beaufort Farmers Market on Saturdays.
Multi-generational businesses have to stick together. We'll be back next week to see what we can bring from the farm to the table. We've already got the sea part covered. ⚓🌱🍅🍉🐟
