It is with both a sad and broken heart that I make this post. September 16th Gary "The Ice Cream Man" passed away. I want you to know how much running this ice cream truck meant to him. Gary was retired from being in the medical field as a physical therapist for over 40 years. Soon after retiring he became bored. Only so much fishing you can do. lol A family friend of mine was selling his ice cream truck and asked if I knew anyone that might be interested. Gary was the first person that came to my mind. I approached him about this. Honestly, I expected him to laugh at me and say are you crazy. He didn't he said let's go see. That afternoon we came back with the truck. I tell you this back story to let you know that this was more than just a business to him, it was a big blessing to him. The summers were long, hard and hot. Very hot. He enjoyed serving the daycares, churches, events, birthday parties. His face would light up when he would hear the children chant "the ice cream man is here" as they were jumping up and down. He considered each of you as a friend and grew very attached to the children and people he served. To each of you that gave us the opportunity to come and be a part of your Childcare Centers, Bible Schools, Birthday parties, events, special occasions, Assisted Living Centers, and even weddings, thank you. You all meant so much to him and also to me. Every summer he would say I'm not sure if I will do this next year and every year he would give me a list and say order my ice creams, my babies are counting on me. Even when he battled cancer in 2016 he only cut his summer off a week early. Gary was more than the Ice Cream Man. Gary was an amazing woodworker, he loved fishing and beach music. He was a son, brother, father, uncle, Papa, friend, a devoted and active member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church and he was also my Best Friend. Some of my favorite memories of him were spent building this business with him and working with him. At this time I am not sure what direction I will go with the Ice Cream Truck. I will post on here as soon as I know something. Please continue to keep his family and friends in your prayers.
Love you all,
Susan
