A little behind the scenes on why I grabbed the limited reserve micro-lot from Madagascar . . .

I spend a truly unreasonable amount of time watching coffee auctions, following rare lots, reading judging notes, and keeping track of what countries are harvesting, shipping & when.

I have spreadsheets. Of course I have spreadsheets. 💁🏻‍♀️

But every once in a while, something shows up that makes all of that planning go straight out the window.

This Madagascar was one of those coffees.

Coffee from Madagascar is exceptionally uncommon in specialty coffee, and high-quality Arabica lots are even harder to find. Tucked into a container carrying hundreds of bags of robusta were just ten small sacks of this washed Arabica.

The coffee had to be graded, tested, and cleared before it could be released. That took months.

The second I saw it, I bought it. I didn’t ask for permission, hold a meeting or overthink it.
Just pure coffee FOMO.

Introducing our first-ever coffee from Madagascar: Madagascar Soavinandriana.

Produced by approximately 40 smallholder farmers in the Itasy region, this Limited Reserve Microlot is delicate, layered, and unlike anything we have brought in before, with notes of apricot, caramel, lemon tea, and raw sugar.

Sometimes the spreadsheet wins.

Sometimes ten tiny sacks of coffee show up and you trust your gut. Now available in limited quantities.

A rare Madagascar single origin featuring apricot, caramel, lemon tea, raw sugar, and agave. Sweet, approachable, and available for a limited time.

Not all coffee shops roast their own coffee.

We do.

Every bag on our shelves is roasted right here in Belvidere on our Giesen roaster, allowing us to control freshness, quality, and flavor from green coffee to final cup.

Roasting in-house means we’re constantly tasting, adjusting, and refining because coffee is an agricultural product. Seasons change, harvests change and coffees evolve.

It’s slower. It’s more work. But we believe what you reach for every day matters.

We’re a specialty coffee roastery where serious coffee and creative drinks share the same table and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

We’ll be closed July 3rd–6th to give our team a well-deserved opportunity to rest, recharge, and spend time with their families.

Thank you for supporting a small business that believes great coffee matters but so does taking care of the people who make it matters too.

We look forward to seeing you before and after the break.

Ever notice that some lattes taste mostly like milk, while others let the espresso shine through?

Neither is wrong. It’s just preference.

Most of our drinks lean coffee-forward because we use a double-shot philosophy. You’ll actually taste the espresso alongside the milk and flavor.

If you’re used to very sweet or milk-heavy drinks, that difference can be surprising the first time.

The good news? We can usually help you find your sweet spot.

Where do you land on the scale?

There are faster places to get coffee.

We’ve never really tried to be one of them.

Some people stop in for five minutes. Others stay for an hour.

A quiet corner. A conversation. A cup of coffee before heading back out into the world.

Whatever brings you through the door, we’re glad you’re here.
