It's hard to know what to say when something like this happens in your own backyard.
We've been struggling to find the words since Thursday. Our hearts are broken for the families, the students, the teachers, and everyone whose lives have been touched by what happened at Silver Rail Elementary. It's the kind of thing you never imagine happening in your own community. And when it does, it leaves you feeling helpless, heartbroken, and wondering how something like this could happen so close to home.
But in the middle of all this heartbreak, we've also been reminded of something pretty incredible about Bend. The way people have shown up for one another. The love, the compassion, the support for families they may not even know. It's been overwhelming in the most beautiful way.
And to our first responders, law enforcement, emergency personnel, and everyone who stepped in to help, we can't thank you enough. You faced something no one should ever have to face, and we know the weight of that doesn't just disappear when the day is over. We're grateful for your courage, your compassion, and everything you do to keep our community safe.
We've called Bend home since 1998, and right now, our hearts are hurting alongside our neighbors. But even through something this heartbreaking, seeing the way this community has rallied around those affected reminds us of the kind of people we're lucky enough to call our neighbors.
We know a neighborhood pub can't fix what's happened. We wish we could. But what we can do is be here. To listen. To offer a familiar face, a conversation, or just a place where you don't have to feel alone.
To the families hurting right now, we are thinking of you. To everyone who has stepped up to help, thank you. And to our Bend community, please keep looking out for each other.
We're hurting with you. We're here for you. And we're going to keep showing up for each other. ❤️
