"While in Moss Point, I ventured over to the boardwalk nature trail at the Pascagoula River Audubon Center. Surrounded by bayous, the center is a refuge for birds. Standing out on the dock, it feels as if you're part of their world as they swoop and call to one another. Kayaks are available to rent here, too, if you want to push further into the natural world."

From peaceful paddles along the Pascagoula River to unforgettable wildlife encounters, discover why Coastal Mississippi is a destination where nature takes center stage. Read the full story at the link below.

Before the United States of America was a nation, stories were already unfolding along the shores of Coastal Mississippi.

For centuries, this coastline has welcomed Native peoples, explorers, immigrants, fishermen, shipbuilders, entrepreneurs, artists, service members, and families searching for opportunity. Here, cultures met, traditions blended, challenges were faced, and communities continued to rebuild, time and again.

The story of America has never been simple. Neither has ours.

Yet through every chapter, resilience has remained. It lives in our working waterfronts, our historic downtowns, our military legacy, our music, our celebrations, and the people who continue to shape this place every day.

As we celebrate Independence Day and America's 250th anniversary, we honor those who came before us, those who serve today, and the generations who will write the next chapter.

This is more than a destination. It's a place where American history lives along the water.

Happy Independence Day from Coastal Mississippi. 🇺🇸

Looking for an unforgettable day on the water in Coastal Mississippi? 🌊🏝️

The barrier islands offer a chance to unplug, explore untouched beaches, spot incredible wildlife, paddle through crystal waters, cast a line, or simply enjoy a day away from it all.

As Jill Robbins writes in her Lonely Planet article, "For travelers who love art, birding, paddling, fishing or just the idea of disappearing for a day, the barrier islands make an easy add-on to a Mississippi Gulf Coast itinerary. Pairing them with a stay in Ocean Springs adds another layer entirely: galleries, seafood restaurants, fun boutiques and an eclectic small-town art scene."

We couldn't agree more. From the natural beauty of the barrier islands to the vibrant arts, dining, and coastal charm of Ocean Springs, there's always more to discover in Coastal Mississippi.

🚀 A hometown hero has a new landmark in Coastal Mississippi.

This past Saturday, the City of Biloxi dedicated Fred Haise Landing at the site of the Fred Haise statue along Highway 90, honoring Biloxi native and Apollo 13 astronaut Fred Haise. A portion of Highway 90, from Porter Avenue to Kuhn Street, was also officially designated as Astronaut Fred Haise Highway.

Born and raised in Biloxi, Haise went on to become a NASA astronaut and served as the Lunar Module Pilot on the historic Apollo 13 mission in 1970. While the mission never reached the moon, the crew's safe return became one of the most remarkable stories in space exploration. He later helped shape the future of space travel by commanding the Space Shuttle Enterprise during its early test flights.

Planning a trip to Coastal Mississippi? Stop by Fred Haise Landing, located directly across from the Biloxi Visitors Center, to learn about one of our Coast's most inspiring stories, snap a photo with the statue, and celebrate a hometown legend whose journey reached far beyond our shores.

Congratulations to Fred Haise on this well-deserved recognition. Your legacy continues to inspire generations to dream big. 🌎✨

"Despite a small coastline situated between the legendary saltwater fish havens of Louisiana and Florida, the Mississippi Coast can provide outstanding action for various salty species."

From Speckled Trout and Redfish to Cobia and Flounder, Coastal Mississippi offers incredible fishing opportunities throughout the year, with each season bringing something new to the water.
