Oh hey friends, it’s been a minute 👀

While we’ve been quiet on here, we definitely haven’t been still. Social media ends up getting put on the backburner when you’re deep in the grind, and the first year of a new restaurant is pretty much all grind. But we just celebrated our one year anniversary, and we’re really hitting our stride. We’ve been hard at work really refining our recipes and dialing our procedures - the unsexy behind-the-scenes work that’s not exactly social media worthy but does make all the difference. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been cooking, literally 😬

Cheers to one year in Birmingham! 🥂

We’re incredibly grateful for everything this year has brought and for this unbelievable community that welcomed us with open arms. Birmingham’s food scene is stacked with truly amazing restaurants and it’s an honor to be part of it and to feel so supported night after night.

None of this would be possible without our incredible front and back-of-house teams who show up, work hard, and make Wooden City the magical place it is every single day.

Here’s to year two - can’t wait to see what’s next! ✨

We’ve eaten these enough times by now that we have a pretty strong opinion about what makes the *perfect* pepper.

🌶️They can’t get cleaned too early or stuffed too far ahead of time, and over-mixed sausage is no good.

🌶️You also gotta make sure it has the right amount of stuffing & the oven is hot enough that the peppers get a solid char without actually burning.

🌶️Ideally they fall on the slightly spicy spectrum, but that mostly depends on the actual crops themselves, the season, etc. (sometimes you get really lucky.)

🌶️The final piece to bring it all together: housemade focaccia & balanced chive oil ratio. They always hit the spot, but they’re especially good at warming you up during these cooler months.

New Year’s Eve just got a little more special at Wooden City! ✨

We’re serving a full small plate of lobster dumplings (yes! you read that right) loaded with lobster tail, chive butter sauce, white wine mushrooms, and crispy breadcrumbs.

We’ll be open til midnight so stick around to ring in the New Year with some bubbles and a decadent brownie sundae. 🥂

Bham - thank you for making our very first year one we’ll never forget. This community is something special and we feel so lucky to be a part of it. Trust us when we say this house-made ravioli stuffed with tangy goat cheese, finished in a rich pistachio butter sauce, topped with candied pistachios, crispy shallots, and fresh basil is a staff fav for a reason.

We believe that chicken should never be boring. Yes, it can always be an approachable staple to any menu but why not try something new and fun that doesn’t really fit the typical chicken dish stereotype? Our Chicken Schnitzel has gotten so much love since we opened and it’s easy to see that we’re pretty obsessed with it too.
