Beyond the C's is back for July

One night, around the bar, where Jeff the wine guy pours past the usual and walks you through what's actually in the glass: taste, structure, acidity, the stuff nobody tells you. Every pour paired with a small plate built to match.

Jeff “the wine guy” took a trip to Napa and all we got were these photos. For now anyway….

A few days, several wineries, and a lot of pours in the name of Prime’s wine list. Orin Swift, Louis Martini, Rombauer, Newfound, Black Stallion… he made it back standing (mostly). New additions coming to the list… stay tuned.

Rombauer, Merlot to Zin to a ’23 El Dorado Zinfandel none of us had tried yet. Huge thanks to our guide Ellie …upper Midwest native, MSU grad, and the only person who could keep Jeff on schedule for a 3-stop tasting day.

Problem: one of Napa’s founding families makes incredible wine. Bigger problem: Prime only has so many slots on the list. Jeff has been staring at this shelf for 20 minutes and still hasn’t decided what to cut. Send help (or more shelf space).

Somebody has to go find Prime’s 5th Orin Swift. Jeff took one for the team and spent the day wandering barrel rooms in St. Helena so your glass doesn’t have to. The things we do for a wine list.

You asked. We listened.

The $50 Pork Chop + Pinot Noir Flight special is staying EVERY THURSDAY in July.

Come on up and see what the hype is about!

Jeff’s “work trip” to Napa continues… and somehow he keeps surviving. 😅

Yesterday, he spent the day with the winemaker behind Newfound Wines, learning what goes into producing truly exceptional bottles. From Chenin Blanc vines planted in 1942 to one of the best Grenaches he’s ever tasted, it was a masterclass in craftsmanship, terroir, and a commitment to letting the grapes speak for themselves.

The best part? These are exactly the kinds of wines Jeff loves bringing back to Prime. We don’t just choose wines that taste great. We look for the stories, the passion, and the people behind them.

As for the winemaker… despite being a Milwaukee native (and, unfortunately, a Packers fan), Jeff decided he’s still good people. 🧀

It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it.

Jeff is in Napa this week, sampling wines and searching for the next great additions to our wine list. We appreciate his willingness to make these incredibly difficult sacrifices on behalf of our guests.

From bright and elegant to rich and earthy, each pour is selected to bring out the depth, flavor, and character of every bite.
