My dearest friend gave me this painting he created from a photo I took from one of my first wheat fields. Of course he dropped me and Lulu in there- artist’s vision, and right now I’m staring at it on my wall so grateful. Rye harvest coming up in a few weeks 💚🌾

There is something about the woods after a rain that is so mysterious and magical. This Memorial Day weekend maybe isn’t the kick off to summer we typically hope for, cool and wet.But nature never disappoints I think. take a listen to this clip I’m posting and breath. 🪶💚🧘 oh- and I want to mention dogs and I cover ourselves with Lemongrass spray and not a single tick!

Came across this mushroom in my veg garden while doing some early weeding this morning. First thought was what happened to our asparagus! Never saw this🍄before! A stinkhorn mushroom I learned - they stink and flies like them. But no problem for garden,it’s a sign of healthy fungal activity in my soil ☺️. They’ll will be done in a day. They are dramatic that’s for sure.

Throw back -this pic popped up in my photo memories- and I was just writing about Ruthie’s- this was always one of my favorites images of our place. A true neighborhood gem, I loved how we served the families in our community. We don’t miss the daily grind of running a restaurant but we are so grateful for the experience of being a part of this beautiful community on a very special corner.

In honor and of Mothers Day michael taught the kids how to make Foccacia and I gave them a tour of the mill explaining where flour comes from! From field, to harvest, cleaning and milling. I so love the kiddos - it’s what i miss the most about our Ruthie’s in Montclair. 💚🐣🐥🌾 but so happy to be educating them about their food, they were so excited to make their own bread!

Beginning stages of course! It’s coming up beautifully our Rye. Rye is one of the grains that grows extremely well in NJ. We focus on grains that are regional, we want to work with varieties that thrive in our conditions. Never fight the natural world, work with it. We have a bed of clover under this rye that also thrives in our environment, and delivers tons of nitrogen to the soil while repressing weeds. It’s a natural partner. We like those kinds of partners!
