🍔☀️ Tony’s Bayview Drive-In — A True Southtowns Classic Since 1984! ☀️🍦

If you’ve spent any summer near Lake Erie, Hamburg, or Blasdell, chances are you’ve made at least one stop at Tony’s Bayview Drive-In — maybe for a post-beach cone, a quick dinner with friends, or a char-grilled Sahlen’s that hit just right. 🌭🌊

Tony’s story started back in the early 1980s when Anthony “Tony” Palumbo opened a small roadside stand along Route 5. His goal was simple: serve good food fast to the beachgoers, commuters, and families cruising the lakeshore. It was a time when drive-ins were the heartbeat of summer — windows rolled down, kids running for cones, and that unmistakable smell of char-grilled hot dogs filling the air.

From day one, Tony focused on what Western New Yorkers love most:
🔥 Sahlen’s hot dogs fresh off the char-grill
🍔 Burgers, Italian sausage, and subs
🌀 Fresh-cut curly fries (the local favorite!)
🍦 Perry’s ice cream, shakes, and floats for that perfect finish

What made Tony’s special wasn’t just the menu — it was the vibe. No flash, no gimmicks. Just a laid-back, friendly stop where everyone from local workers to sun-soaked families could grab a bite and unwind. Over time, it became more than a drive-in — it became a community tradition.

When Tony later passed the business on, the new owners kept his name and spirit alive. They didn’t change what worked — they kept the same menu, same style, same family feel that everyone grew up with. Even after challenges, like the 2022 accident when a car crashed into the building, the community immediately rallied, asking the same question: “When is Tony’s reopening?” ❤️ That’s how you know a place has truly become part of people’s lives.

In 2023, Tony’s celebrated 40 incredible years — four decades of smiles, summer nights, and Southtowns memories. Whether it’s your first visit or your 100th, that same warmth and flavor still welcome you in.

🍦 History Spotlight: Blasdell, NY (14219) 🍦

Hey Bayview friends! Let’s take a trip back in time right here in our own backyard — the Village of Blasdell! 🕰️✨

🚂 How It All Began:
Blasdell got its start in the 1870s thanks to Herman Blasdell, a railroad station master who named the stop after himself (talk about leaving your mark! 😄). With the Erie Railroad running through, the area quickly grew from farmland to a thriving railroad town. By 1898, the locals made it official and incorporated as the Village of Blasdell!

🏨 Boomtown Days:
Herman Blasdell even built a four-story hotel to welcome travelers — the Blasdell Hotel, which still stands today! After a fire in 1903 🔥, neighbors came together to form the Blasdell Volunteer Fire Department (est. 1905) 🚒 — a tradition of teamwork that continues strong!

🌳 In the 1930s, federal projects helped pave the streets and plant many of the shade trees we still enjoy today 🌳🚶‍♀️.

🍝 Famous Faces:
One of Blasdell’s most beloved locals was Ilio DiPaolo, the legendary wrestler and restaurateur. He opened his famous Italian restaurant on South Park Ave in 1965 — still run by his family today! 🇮🇹💪

🗺️ Known as the “Gateway to the Southtowns,” Blasdell remains a proud, close-knit village full of history and heart ❤️

🍔 Tony’s Bayview Drive-In has been serving up smiles here since 1984 — part of this community’s story for over 40 years!
