Nearly thirty years in the restaurant world teaches you a few things. Mostly, where to spend your money—and where not to spend it twice.

My wife and I recently tried a very fancy place for her 40th birthday, which I won’t name. Not because I’m afraid to say what I think, but because I don’t use this page to tear down local businesses. I’ll just quietly take my business elsewhere.

This isn’t about that business. This story is about Basquenese

Made it over to the warehouse today and finally stopped in for the Char Siu Banh Mi and some Basque fries. I have to say, I’m disappointed in myself for taking so long to make it over there and support this spot.

I’m not sure what term the kids use these days for something so good that you mumble through the first half of the sandwich, then just start hmmm-ing and hah-ing through the second half. But whatever it is, this is that. And that was before I even touched a fry…🤤

Hot sandwich. Cool, fresh veggies. A little heat from the jalapeño. Sweet, salty, crunchy, messy in all the right ways…It’s where culture, art and a dream all come together…good luck replicating that at home. It’s THAT kind of small local spot worth getting out for. ❤️💚

Vegetarian yakisoba stir fry. It has a sweeter and milder profile than our garlic noods 🤣, and lots of veggies. I hate to admit it, but I like it a lot 👀. I fought adding another noodle dish to the bottomless menu 😩. If you can’t find something to eat at Basquenese then your appetite cannot be satiated 😭🤣 JK.

Hands down the best Basque sando on the menu. Amuma’s summer Sando is packed with flavor: pesto aioli, Ansots ground chorizo, melted cheese, tomatoes 🍅, pickled onions 🧅, and organic baby arugula. Show stopper compared to the other sandos.

Crispy pork belly started as a bet between the Basquo and I. He said it wouldn’t sell because everyone’s a fan of char siu. While that statement is true for the most part… we sell tons of pork belly as well. Foodies really like their fried pork belly 😂😮‍💨🐷

People love it - the pho dip is back. I haven’t found another restaurant in Idaho that serves this! It’s a special dish (mom’s suggestion a while back).
