The view outside this window never changes. The way I choose to see it does.
This little piece of stained glass has become one of my favorite reminders that perspective is powerful.
A few months back I was talking with a woman in the coffee shop who has become a dear friend. We were talking about how full life feels lately when she said something that stopped me in my tracks.
“People are always saying, ‘You’re so busy,’ like it’s something to apologize for.”
Then she smiled and said,
“I’ve decided to stop saying I’m busy and start saying I’m fulfilled.”
That one sentence changed the way I looked at my own life.
My dad used to tell me a story about two men sitting in a jail cell. Both looked through the same bars. One saw the mud. The other saw the stars.
Same place.
Same circumstances.
Different perspective.
Joy and hardship often exist side by side. We don’t always get to choose what life places in front of us, but we do have a say in the lens we look through.
Our thoughts shape how we feel.
Our feelings influence how we respond.
And over time those responses shape the life we’re building.
Maybe that’s what we’re really serving here.
Not just coffee but a place where conversations can change the way we see the world.
Today, I’m choosing to stop saying, “I’m so busy,” and start saying,
“I’m so fulfilled.”
What perspective has changed your life?
