Mardi Gras means different things to different people. To me it means community, family and music. My texts and fb are filled with BlackRock Rocks hoodies, team photos and other memories. It's as perfect as perfect can be.

Whether you attended, planned, played or volunteered - together we did a good thing (10 times!!) and I love remembering it.

I hope you are all sporting your beads, enjoying a hurricane, Abita beer, crawfish and or a slice of king cake where ever you are.

If you are out and about check out the trees on Fairfield Avenue and let me know if any beads still remain from the best party in Blackrock!

About Kelly:
Kelly Bigelow Becerra is a super talented, creative genius with a very big heart. She has recently gone public with the news that her stage four cancer is terminal and progressing quickly and that her doctor's prognosis is that she may not be with us for very long. She is a loving soul with a magnetic personality, whose kindness and desire to inspire people around her is very rarely found in this world. She has dedicated her life to the arts through her artwork, films, designs and teaching. She has shared her love of art through public speaking, teaching and mentoring so many students, fellow artists and frankly, anyone that would listen. She is adored by her friends & community and has given back in so many ways and now she needs our help.

The whole northeast music Community lost a beloved friend last night. Whether it was BlackRock Rocks, Gathering of the Vibes, Catskill Chill, Bryac, Soupstock (and many MORE) or endless regional and local bands, Joe Mango was the man behind the sound. He took his craft seriously and worked tirelessly to bring you the best experience possible. In addition to his soundboard skills, he is loved by many for his wit, sense of humor, spirit, and abundance of hugs. We remember him today and send love to his family and friends. We miss you already Joe Mango. You are the best of us.

BlackRock Rocks was born here. From our very beginnings to blowing the doors off our 10th Anniversary show, The Acoustic has always been a partner, an integral part of our event AND our lives. This announcement hits the BlackRock Rocks Krewe especially hard. We have the most heartfelt gratitude for the past and present owners for all you have contributed to foster the most amazing home for live music. We are sad to announce that we will be closing our doors for good. This decision has not been made lightly. Due the cost of overhead and the uncertainty of what business will look like for us we simply cannot continue to sustain our business and location any longer. We absolutely are open to suggestions. We at BlackRock Rocks would like to extend our sincere appreciation for our friend David Hogan and deep sadness at the news of his passing. As a musician, he volunteered Graylight Campfire for the cause no less than four times. As a supporter and attendee of BRR events, he was there even more often. The years of pictures from our Photo Booth feature him prominently time and time again. In truth, he is the first member of the Black Rock Rocks family to leave us, and for that, we are especially saddened.

His joy and energy added a unique and vibrant element to the complex tapestry of our events and to the music family as a whole. He was generous and kind enough to offer his talents always, even without prompting. He always arrived with a smile on his face, with or without gear. His support, and his heart, always genuine.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, loved ones, and bandmates. A unique and bright candle has gone out in our community. Let us all remember Dave, for the tremendous person he was, for his generosity, for the music he gave us, and for his joyful spirit. We will miss him.

To riff off a quote, a good song will stand, but a good spirit will soar. Forever.
