Postcards from UBANI, No. 4 — A Land of Polyphony 🎶

Independent voices, woven together in harmony. Our fourth postcard celebrates Georgia’s ancient tradition of polyphonic singing—a sound shared across generations and sent all the way into space.

In 1977, the Georgian folk song “Chakrulo” joined NASA’s Voyager Golden Record as one of the sounds chosen to represent humanity.

From Georgia, with love—and a song.

Postcards from UBANI, No. 3 — The Georgian Supra 🍷

A table full of food, a raised glass, and stories shared between friends. The supra brings people together through food, w**e, and a sequence of heartfelt toasts.

Led by the Tamada, each toast honors what connects us: family, friendship, ancestors, love, and life.

A little piece of Georgia, sent from our table to yours.

A few letters can open the door to an entire culture. 🇬🇪

Our next postcard celebrates the Georgian language and its beautiful, unmistakable script. The words აი ია (“Here is a violet”) are familiar to generations of Georgians as a first step in learning to read.

Turn the postcard over to discover more about a language with a history all its own. Pick one up at Ubani, write a note, and share a little piece of Georgia with someone you love.

Official statement from the Ubani Group:

We believe it is necessary to respond clearly to the information, calls to action, and negative reviews about our restaurant that have circulated on social media in recent days and that plainly go beyond legitimate criticism.

Our restaurant hosted an international event attended by representatives of various countries, including representatives of Georgia’s mission. Claims circulating on social media that hosting this event meant the restaurant was expressing a political position are unfounded.

The restaurant is a private business, not a political organization. We do not investigate our guests’ political views or choose customers based on their political affiliation. A restaurant cannot, and should not, be expected to refuse service to people because of their political views, work, background, or other personal characteristics. Targeting a private business and conducting a negative campaign against it is unacceptable.

It was particularly disappointing that the “protest” held outside did not raise specific issues showing genuine concern about the situation in Georgia. Much of the discussion concerned personal employment, income, and work done as immigrants in America.

Against this backdrop, it is especially contradictory to accuse the restaurant of hosting certain guests “for the money.” When the protesters’ own conversation focused mainly on personal employment and financial well-being, such an accusation against us sounds unconvincing, to say the least.

It is also very easy to write accusations from behind a keyboard, leave negative reviews, and try to damage a private business’s reputation.

It is especially regrettable when political differences turn into a deliberate effort to harm a business built by Georgian immigrants. Behind our four restaurants are years of work, time, and many people who work every day to represent Georgian cuisine and hospitality with dignity.

The restaurant does not represent the interests of any government, political party, or group. We do not intend to become involved in a political dispute, but we will not leave unanswered attempts to deliberately damage our business’s rating and the reputation we have built over many years because of false information and political disagreements.

We call on everyone to stop trying to draw the restaurant artificially into a political dispute.

Our position is clear and unequivocal: we will always accept criticism based on real experiences. We will not accept attempts to damage our business, our employees’ work, and the reputation we have built over many years for political reasons.
