Got Brussels sprouts in your box this week? Here is how to make them last.

Nobody wants to open the fridge on Thursday and find sad, yellowing sprouts. Here are the five things worth knowing before you put them away.

Leave them on the stalk as long as possible — it keeps them significantly fresher than loose sprouts stored on their own.

Store loose sprouts unwashed and dry in a paper bag with a paper towel inside — moisture is the enemy.

Keep the outer leaves on during storage — they are protecting everything underneath.
Keep them away from apples, pears, and bananas — ethylene gas speeds up spoilage faster than you think.

Have more than you can use this week? Blanch and freeze them — they go straight from freezer to oven all winter long.

The farmers market packed up for the winter. We did not.

We know that empty parking lot feeling. The Saturday morning routine that carried you through spring, summer, and fall — the familiar faces, the overflowing tables, the best tomatoes you ever tasted, the farmer whose name you actually know. And then one weekend in October the tents come down, the signs come down, and suddenly the most reliable source of fresh local food in your week is just — gone until next year.
It does not have to work that way anymore.

FreshFix delivers fresh, locally grown produce and locally made products from WNY farms and producers straight to your door every single week — all year long. The same farmers you love at the market. The same commitment to fresh, seasonal, local food. No tents, no parking lots, no Saturday morning alarm. Just a box of the best WNY has to offer showing up at your doorstep on a schedule that works for you.
The farms are still growing. The producers are still making. And we are still delivering — through fall, through winter, and straight into the best spring harvest season Western New York has ever seen.

The farmers market may be done for the season. Your access to local food is just getting started.

Meet the peanut butter that started in a food processor, a home kitchen, and a very serious lifelong obsession.

Brittany Waldron is a wife, a mama, and a full-time speech therapist who has loved peanut butter for as long as she can remember. Not just on toast. Not just on apples. By the spoonful — straight from the jar, any time of day, no apologies whatsoever.

When she started noticing that a standard grocery store jar of peanut butter could sit in a cupboard for years without changing, she decided that was a problem worth solving. She pulled out her food processor, bought peanuts from a local grocery store, and started experimenting. The results were so good that her coworkers started asking to buy them.

Her husband and father-in-law built her a dedicated production space in the basement. She designed a name, a logo, and a label. And Brittany Waldron was born.

Today Brittany still makes every single jar by hand. Still scoops the peanut butter out of her processor herself. Still runs to the store for the ingredient she forgot. Still comes up with the most creative flavor names you have ever seen on a jar of peanut butter — from The Classic with sea salt and Honey Roasted to Cinnamon Queen, S’Mores, Funfetti, and a rotating lineup of seasonal specialties that make every order feel like a little surprise.

No preservatives. No shortcuts. Just real, handcrafted nut butter made by someone who genuinely loves what she does — and it shows in every single spoonful.

Now available in the FreshFix store because products made with this much heart deserve to be on as many tables as possible.

Behind every box is a team of real people who genuinely care about what lands on your table.

This is not an automated warehouse. This is not a faceless corporation shipping generic produce from a distribution center three states away. This is a team of real people right here in Western New York who show up every single week because they genuinely believe that local food matters — and that the families in this community deserve access to the best of it.

We are the people who drive out to farms in Eden and Clarence and East Aurora to meet the growers face to face. Who spend time learning which farmer is harvesting what and when. Who vet every product that goes into the store because our name is on every single box that goes out the door. Who answer your emails, pack your orders, and think about how to make fresh local food more accessible to every household in WNY — not just the ones who can easily afford it.

We built FreshFix because we believe the local food system in Western New York deserves to thrive. Because local farmers deserve a partner who shows up for them the way they show up for this community. And because every family in Buffalo and beyond deserves to know the name of the farm that grew their dinner.

That is what gets us up in the morning. That is what goes into every box. And that is the team that is showing up for you every single week — because what lands on your table genuinely matters to us.

Thank you for trusting us with it.

The farm behind your box has a story worth knowing — and this one is one of our favorites.

Root Down Farm in Clarence Center is run by Steve and Erin Blabac — a farm family that started with 50 CSA shares in 2011 and has grown into one of the most trusted local producers in all of Western New York. No synthetic fertilizers. No pesticides. No shortcuts. Just clean, principled farming on land they have carefully stewarded for over a decade — some of it protected forever by the WNY Land Conservancy so it will never stop being farmland.

They converted a tractor to run on electric. They use drip irrigation to conserve every drop of water. They rotate crops the old fashioned way to keep their soil healthy and their harvest clean. Every single decision on this farm is made with the long-term health of the land and the community in mind.

And the result of all of that care and intention? It ends up in your FreshFix box every single week.

Swipe through to learn the full story behind Root Down Farm — and the next time you pull something out of your box, know that it came from people who genuinely poured everything they had into growing it right.

Menu resets Friday, which means it's time to be honest: what's still sitting in your fridge from this week's box?

Three ways to use it up before the new lineup drops:

🥬Batch it into one sauce or base. Blitz whatever's soft, bruised, or "about to turn" — tomatoes, peppers, zucchini — into a simple sauce or soup base. Freeze it flat in a bag and it becomes dinner in three different meals later.

🥕Build one big "kitchen sink" dish. Stir-fry, frittata, or grain bowl — whatever's left in the drawer goes in. There's no wrong combination when everything's getting cooked down together anyway.

🥔Freeze it before it's a problem. Chop and freeze anything you know you won't get to — most produce holds up far better frozen raw than forgotten in the crisper. Future you already has dinner started.

Fresh food shouldn't come with guilt when it doesn't get used fast enough. A little planning goes a long way — and it means every bit of what your local farmers grew actually gets eaten.
