I always enjoy my "up-early" Sunday mornings....
🌽 is that corn growing out front of the restaurant?? 🌽
Heard this question multiple times from you all......
as I've been working the Pick-Up window more lately
short answer = yes
BUT here is the LONG answer....
This is actually corn I replant out front each year, that came from my century old family farm....
I watch this corn growing out front every year and reflect on how I've been blessed to come from a long line of farmers, both sides of my family.... there is so much learned from them.....
I was able to watch people who didn't follow a time clock, but did what ever was needed to get the job done.... up and at it 4am, but still finishing up 15 hours later... back out at 2am checking livestock after a major storm blowing over hog houses...
even Thanksgiving / Christmas morning grandpa coming in on the old minneapolis moline tractor, from the south place after, finish morning chores.... then back out 3pm for evening chores....
I've seen that there is going to be some really BAD years..... yet there is gonna be some really GREAT years.... and there is always next year....
that things do change..... my grandfather used horses to plant and picked corn by hand.... if my great-grandfather could be back for a day..... and see a million dollar combine that drives itself... (heck I bet if you added up everything he spent his whole life on equipment, it wouldn't be a 10th of the new combine cost)..... that land he paid $200 acre for, now going for almost $20,000 an acre..... data that tells the yield on each acre..... He would be amazed... but yet I think he would be shaking his head that it's just all a little too much
seen running a business... my grandfather was one of the last guys around who still used a tractor mounted corn picker and cribbed ear corn into the 80's...... I seen some pretty fancy combines by then..... BUT I'm sure on paper this was a very wise decision.... along with what to plant.. keep hogs... or cattle... etc etc
their Sunday travels.... if you ever get a chance to read some old newspapers about a 100 years past..... they all had columns that told what everybody did each week... I love reading these..... makes me feel kinda boring.... they went to every fair, church event, town event, family dinners here / there..... Worked hard but yet had fun....
I can only hope that years from now, my grandkids will make a pizza on a Sunday afternoon, and have some good reflections....
So is that corn growing out front...... YUP you bet....
(I'm not one to use AI, but I did have it color our old family farms pictures, turned out kinda neat)
