NEW COFFEE - Sidama Keramo

About a week ago, we received a small, 20 pound batch of coffee from coffee growers in Keramo Village, Ethiopia. The distributors hold an organic certification and go to great lengths to ensure that all coffee growers are practicing sustainable farming. Grown at 2000-2100 MSL. The coffee has a honey-sweetness with notes of summer stone fruit and citrus. We noticed that while this coffee was certainly on the sweeter side of Ethiopian coffees, Sidama Keramo managed to bring floral complexity and bright acidity to the cup. A truly unique pour over brew, but works beautifully with espresso as well.

NEW COFFEES!!

Introducing Tangkul Village from the island of Flores, Ysauro Tocto from Peru, and Sergio Romero’s coffee hailing from Honduras. All coffees are now up on website.

We love Indonesian coffees; they’re complex and surprising with the variation in flavors that they characteristically exhibit. Tangkul Village is a clean, balanced coffee similar to those of Central America. Nicely acidic with darker tones of chocolate and raw sugars. Highly recommended for espresso, but also makes a great cold brew. Grown in a range of altitudes, from 1400 to 1750 MSL. While not certified organic, the village’s farming practices are wholly organic.

We’re fortunate enough to sell coffee with knowledge of the grower himself. We sell Sergio Romero’s coffee with his name on the bag because we are directly supporting Sergio and his tireless work in Honduras’ mountains. Sergio’s coffee is full of flavor, with notes of candied yam, coriander, and raisin. When roasted to a darker level, the coffee exhibits a unique bittersweetness. Grown at 1600 MSL.

We usually do not sell Peruvian coffees to better support countries in more desperate economic need, but Ysauro Tocto was an exception. Certified organic and certified fair trade, this coffee is one of Peru’s finest. The coffee has apple undertones, coupled with almond and cashew flavors. A clean, sweet finish. The 1.5 hectare plantation sits at 1500 MSL, and the group who grows the coffee often experiments with different cultivars of coffee. Tocto includes Typica, Bourbon, and Caturra, just to name a few.

For an extra special Mother’s Day, we’ve released an exclusive Mother’s Day blend with . Whole bean or ground. $15 for 12 oz.

We’ve blended together two distinct coffees full of bright floral and citrus notes, perfect for this special day. From the island of Flores in Indonesia (a fitting name), comes a special bean from Tangkul Village. Clean and balanced with pleasant acidity and bright citrus. Farm altitudes range from 1400-1750 MSL. The coffee fruit is de-pulped by hand-cranked machines and dried on wooden racks. While the village has yet to receive an organic certification, all current practices are fully organic.

The second coffee comes from Ethiopia’s Bombe Mountains. Sidama Keramo is an excellent pour over coffee but works well in espresso, too. A beautifully floral coffee, with notes of ripe peach, jasmine flower, and nectarine. This farm is a neighbor of the Shantawene Village, a coffee we sold earlier this year. Sidama Keramo is proud to have obtained their organic certificaition and the farmers ensure that all agricultural methods are compliant with the ever-changing organic standards. Farms range from 2000-2100 MSL.

Only a few bags will be released this year and all orders must go through WECO Hospitality’s ordering system. @ Carlisle, Massachusetts

Introducing two new coffees: Kainantu Farmers from Papua New Guinea, and Rugembe Hill from Burundi.

At number 1 out of 14 on our social indexing chart, Burundi’s Rugembe Hill is a complex bean with notes of green apple, baking spices, and cocoa. Lighter roasts yield a more acidic coffee while darker roasts encourage the deeper, more robust flavors to shine through. It’s grown on a sunny mountainside at a little over 2000 MSL in the Mutambu province. The beans are cold-fermented in concrete washing tubes and then hand-graded before being dried on raised beds and exported out of Burundi.

Kainantu Farmers produces an excellent espresso, with fruity notes including roasted date, raisin, and pear. Earlier this year we sold a similar coffee from the same Baroida Plantation. This coffee comes from the same plantation but a different collection of growers. The Kainantu farmers grow in a highly mountainous region, with peaks ranging from 1700-2300 MSL. The coffee is processed by the farmers themselves and blended by them directly from surrounding plantations.

Happy Earth Week! 🌍

We strive to be a globally aware and environmentally conscious roasting company. Roasting coffee can be detrimental to the environment. Most large coffee roasters are powered with propane gas. Our roaster is electric and powered by solar energy ☀️This reduces the roasting process to be virtually carbon neutral.

Many coffee bags are not sustainable. They are either made of plastic or another nonrenewable poly-blend. All our bags are made from compostable Kraft paper. The degassing valves in our bags are also compostable, made of a sugar/starch hybrid. We’ve printed all our labels on sugarcane paper lined with a natural adhesive. This allows us to sell high-quality coffee beans in 100% compostable bags.

We’ve worked with to find the most sustainable shipping options, and are proud to ship in 100% recycled cardboard boxes. These boxes are fully biodegradable and they’re made in the USA. Our boxes are closed with Kraft tape, lined with a plant-based biodegradable adhesive.

We are proud to be able to offer two new coffees, one from Yemen and another from Indonesia.

From the Ismaili coffee-growing region in Yemen comes a wild bean. We were lucky enough to be able to import 5 pounds from
Yemen and will be featuring it for the next couple of weeks until we run out. A crazy-complex coffee, full of dried fruit notes, licorice, tamarind, and cedar wood. Grown at 1400-1500 MSL. Highly recommended for espresso.

A new decaf option from Indonesia aptly named “nusantara,” meaning a coffee from many islands. Nusantara SWP Decaf originates from the Indonesian islands of Timor, Leste, and Sulawesi. The blends are all sourced from the same individual farmer, and carry heavy chocolate notes. Grown at higher altitudes where the coffee plantations sit. 1800-2000 MSL. Excellent espresso.

During these difficult times we are excited to announce a collaboration with , a local catering business founded by two chefs out of work. It’s during moments like these where local businesses and communities bond together. Check out wecohospitality.com for more information about catering options for your family, where buying with your food order is now an option. 12 oz bag for $14.

The custom Blend is a combination of two different whole bean coffees, one from Honduras and one from Rwanda. The Honduran beans come from pueblo Santa Maria in the mountains of Honduras, from the grower Yuliana Aguilar. Her farm sits at 1300 msl, offering rich flavor with popping acidity.

The second bean comes from the Kageyo farm near Lake Kivu, Rwanda. This coffee is grown at a higher altitude, offering chocolate and caramel notes. Kageyo won the Rwanda Cup of Excellence coffee competition in 2011, making this blend a limited offering. A mere 200 bags were exported from Rwanda and we were lucky enough to get one.

Both coffees are, as always, single origin and socially-indexed. Despite the current economic situation, we will continue profit sharing with coffee growers in need and wildlife conservation programs.

🚨NEW COFFEE 🚨

Replacing Kayon Mountain is Monte Libano from Nicaragua. A noteworthy coffee, one of many grown by the same family in the northern municipality of Diplito, Nicaragua. Grown at a lower altitude at 1350, this coffee is much more concentrated in flavor, with notes of caramel, cinnamon, and dark sugar. Roasted to a perfect medium lets a clean sweetness shine through. The growers experiment in their methods of processing. Monte Libano is wet-processed and then fermented overnight, giving the coffee a unique flavor. @ Carlisle, Massachusetts
