Belated THANK YOUs all around from me (ChristyB) and MikeyB for the wonderful Station farewell event hosted at the Cat's Cradle Back Room last weekend!! MASSIVE thanks for this event go to too many people to name, but certainly starting with FRANK HEATH, NORM UNDERWOOD, SONAR STRANGE, KATIE (Bar), ANDY (Sound), and all the Cradle support staff. We are also overcome, overwhelmed and overjoyed by the OUTPOURING of support from such a bevy of incredibly talented musicians,
HOLY SMOKES!!! Blown away by every single performance! A special place in my heart for Dex's renditions of Charlie Chaplin's "Smile (Though Your Heart Is Breaking)" and "Once Upon A Time", both of which moved me to tears. Not to mention Stambaugh's miracle of managing to work a train theme into every cool tune he played! Musical mentor the incomparable Maestro GRIFFANZO has his brand spankin' new album out, and it was so awesome to be one of the first events where we got to hear his brilliant new tunes played live, with backup from the amazing DannyG and Felix!
Of course Taz and her Johnnys thrill me every time, and the Station would never have been the same without longtime friends like David Spencer, Meg&Ken (Poker Dots), Randy, Lee Gildersleeves, Bellflower, and the many bands with whom Danny Mason, Norm, and Sonar all collaborate...alongside former open mic favorites like Tyler Thigpen and Parafilm who've gone on to do amazing things! Then add in the legendary John Dee Holman, rolling out a last minute old time blues set that blew folks away. All of it was just too amazing for words, what a fabulous sendoff, THANK YOU!!
My apologies that I did not have time to speak with each and every musician personally to express just how much it has meant to us to have you perform at the Station over the years, and particularly to have you join as part of our Farewell Event. Parting is such sweet sorrow, but I promise to be out to your shows at other venues as often as I can! Big thanks to EVERYONE who joined us for this 2-day event, please know that the funds raised from your attendance went directly to cover paychecks of several very appreciative members of our kitchen staff and folks who helped close out and clean up the restaurant. THANKS!
Another round of VERY GENUINE and heartfelt thank you's and gigantic displays of gratitude to ALL the folks who believed in and became part of the fabric of Southern Rail and the Station from start to finish... who helped make it possible to conceive of and build the place, and helped keep the wheels on the rails every single week for 9 years!! Our families, our investors, our managers, our FOH and BOH staff, our music staff, vendors, and the cavalcade of eccentric, creative, brilliant, bold, and wickedly wonderful regulars that only a town like Carrboro and a place like Southern Rail/The Station could ever bring together into one sprawling creative complex! You are THE BESTEST!!
A SMALL PRESENT FOR THE BANDS!! FYI, I brought my nice TASCAM digital box and Andy helped me get some good quality digital sound right off the board. I am buried until January 15th, but after that I am hoping to find time and get help splicing off each band's set so I can make the tracks available to you. So please private message me later this month if you would like a copy of the audio from your band's Cradle set!
This is a COMMUNITY PHOTO ALBUM. We are trying to make the settings so that you can upload and add your own photos of the Cradle event here, or just private message any photos you took of the event to our Southern Rail page and we will add them to this album! To start things off, these are just a few cell phone pics I (ChristyB) managed to snap while running around each night before my batteries died, we hope to add more from other people as they come in.
LASTLY, MikeyB has about 10-15 shirts/hoodies left from the event, you can contact him directly if you want one before they are all gone, Station hoodies are only SM/Med, might be a few L/XL SoRail tshirts left.
LOVE YOU ALL!!! See you 'round town when the dust settles!!
"We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when..... But we'll meet again, some sunny day!"
