Happy birthday, Lolo Teofilo.

I wish I could take you to Los Alamitos, where we started, then show you what we’ve built in Carson and Long Beach. I’d show you your name on the door, pour you a cup of coffee from one of the farmers we work with back home, and sit with you for a while.

Looking at these photos, I keep coming back to one question. What are we really doing all of this for?

We get to do this because of our Tatay, Nanay, lolos and lolas. They gave us opportunities we get to build on, and I want my kids to know who made those opportunities possible.

Of all the titles I’ve been given, my favorite is flag bearer. That’s what it feels like to carry your name, Lolo, and to tell people where we come from every time we pour a cup.

Coffee is the vehicle that takes us back home. It gives us a way to work with our farmers and use the opportunities we’ve been given to help more people in the Philippines.

I wish you could see what we’ve done, Lolo. I hope you’d be proud. Salamat. 🇵🇭.

The farmers, the knowledge, the flavors, the stories—our work is to carry them forward and create more opportunities for people to experience what the Philippines has to offer.
