When Good Bones opened, it quickly became clear that we had not really started something new, but rather received the opportunity to steward a very special piece of Mendocino. I hoped that just maybe there was an intersection between what I had to offer and what this space was asking for at the time. What followed was the most challenging and rewarding three years imaginable, but I’d like to think that my gut was mostly right, because all of you showed up.
Every single person who’s walked through these doors has been a vital part of the Good Bones story and while there is so so much I feel grateful for, there are two priceless gifts y’all have given above all else:
Firstly, your patience - as we went through countless iterations, serving dinner, and then breakfast and dinner, and then just lunch, and then lunch and dinner… As we stumbled through new restaurant ownership and navigated operating with a small staff and an even smaller budget. As we adjusted our hours, and adjusted them again, and figured out how to set up a sound system and host live music in this space again.
Secondly, your presence. You showed up for every version of what this was. You had your birthday parties here. You brought your family when they were visiting from out of town. You were on vacation and found our restaurant and gave us a shot and then came back a year later. You sang karaoke. You had your weddings here!! You showed up to support the bands that played and you danced your butts off every single week, in the way only mendocino folks can :)
Tomorrow is our last official day, but just like the beginning was not really a new beginning, the end is also not really the end. There are some incredibly good and talented people who have made their home in Mendocino and are ready to steward the next chapter in this space and they will be opening up shop in the new year (more on that to come).
In the meantime, thank you.
This place has good bones. You all have made it beautiful ❤️
