The Hitching Post Restaurant Seafood Restaurant We are a family owned restaurant that specializes in clam chowder and clam fritters.

We have been open for 61 years and are located on Post Road in Charlestown. Our fritters are famous locally and considered by many to be the best around.

Hello Hitching Post fans -

Many of you have reached out with support and questions, and I want you to hear the latest direct from our family.

I was in a nasty car accident in the fall (rear ended on I95) and have been suffering with many injuries since - for all of which I’m still undergoing various treatments and therapy 8 months later. This situation left me with little choice but to close the chapter on both of my physically (and mentally) demanding jobs: my teaching career and operations of our cherished family restaurant, the Hitching Post.

Seventy-two years for a restaurant that made it through the peak of Covid is quite the accomplishment. The family behind local favorite Monahan’s by the Sea restaurant will be renting the restaurant this year and possibly in the future. They should be opening sometime in the next few weekends.

As many of you know, we live next door to the restaurant. We look forward to seeing many of our loyal customers-turned-family over the next season. We won’t be far. We will be excited to see you and catch up as we may have done in the past over a cup of chowder or a dozen fritters in the dining room.
