Meet the woman behind the meatballs… ❤️

This is my mom, Arlene (Chuck’s wife), pictured at our original South Philly shop with Chuck’s mom, Lucille.

When people ask what makes Chuck’s different, the answer isn’t just the recipes. It’s the people behind them.

Mom and Dad met in high school in the 1960s and built a beautiful life together. This past June they would have celebrated 57 years married. While Dad was hanging wallpaper and playing music with his bands, Mom was right there beside him—running his store and also singing and dancing on stage in the ’60s and ’70s, then heading home to raise my brother Chuck Jr. and my sister Kim.

They loved spending weekends at the swim club in Packer Park where they made lifelong friends. Oh the stories! Then along came me… the surprise baby in 1980. 😂 I always joke that I was born after they had all the fun.

When we packed up our lives and moved to Florida in 2015, Mom came with us. And thank goodness she did… because the recipes weren’t written down. They were all in her head.

Every weekend, she’s still in the kitchen hand-rolling every meatball, frying them until they’re perfectly crisp on the outside, then letting them simmer for hours in her homemade gravy (or what some call tomato sauce 🍅).

But here’s something a lot of people don’t know…

Mom is also an incredible baker!!!

We’re thinking it might be time to let her share a few of her desserts with all of you. 👀
