No “fun” photo today, because the mechanical elements of having a restaurant are not fun, at all.
Talkin HVAC/Electric/Plumbing/Equipment upkeep is arguably the single hardest part of managing a restaurant. Just keeping everything working, dealing with the contractors to service, and paying for everything when none of it’s cheap. It’s what makes this industry one of the toughest of them all. Mechanics can just suffocate you 🤬🥵💰
And no matter how long you do it, there will always be new surprises, and stuff breaks. Especially when it’s running 24/7 or being used constantly. It happens at terrible times & it’s out of your control. Talking mid-rush weekend night (& even more expensive to deal with) while you have a building full of people you’re supposed to be focusing on.
Mechanical will leave you feeling defeated, overwhelmed, over it, ready to tap out, helpless and then some at times..
If you made me pick between being short staffed all over every single shift of my life or dealing with mechanics, it’s no question I’m working 5 different positions, gladly.
So next time you’re at a restaurant and things go bad, food isn’t good, any of it. Just be kind about it either way because the amount of money & effort that establishment paid & is paying to just be there up & running to try & serve you is A LOT.
