Aloha COMMUNITY! Mahalo (many Thanks) to all of you who came out yesterday to GrandPa Hawaii Tropical Treats and patronized my Granddaughter Bailey Leilani at our take out window. Bailey had a really good day selling her hand crafted jewelry and was encouraged by the public's feedback and response. Her and her parents braved the warm day and stayed outside for over 3 hours so she had the opportunity to offer her original pieces. So I'm personally grateful to those of you who bought her jewelry and encouraged her entrepreneurial spirit.

We plan to have Bailey come back and do it again soon. So look for announcements and we hope to see you here. We will continue to offer the FREE soft serve and shave Ice (included with a Coconut Snow Cap) depending on how much of her Jewelry that one purchases from her.

Mahalo Hui Loa,
GPH

Aloha community most of you know my adventure story. How I left the Hawaiian islands after living there for 45 years. I moved back for the mainland, and for the very first time the East Coast. My first real experience of harsh winter weather after growing up in the So. Calif. beach scene for the first 20 years of my life.

I moved to Colonial Beach going on five years ago. As I wanted to be near my daughter Bree and my son-in-law Jeb‘s family, I spent my first six months on their property in Southern, Maryland in 2021. I moved here because I wanted to influence my four grandkids in a positive way.

As I was the guy who would come and visit seven days to two weeks a year, I was dubbed as “Grandpa Hawaii”. The grandpa who lived far away out in the middle of the ocean. The grandkids didn’t really know me.

I wanted to influence them to live their lives as independent self-sufficient individuals. My aim was to mentor them and enable them, in whatever small way I could, while enhancing their people skills and desire to be of service.

So along with the grandkids,I started “Grandpa Hawaii Shave Ice“ in a Mobile Trailer. With the aim that I wanted to give my grandkids opportunity and to be engaged in life, earning money during their summers while out of school. We’ve sold Shave Ice and numerous goodies down on the boardwalk for five seasons now.

My grandkids worked 2 to 3 summers each and I was privileged to work alongside them. Actually, they weren’t working as much for me, as I was working for them. As two of them “Peyton“ and “Carson“ found their way in life, I needed to hire local kids from CB high school to maintain a crew during the summers. I am grateful to have hired 13 H.S. kids besides my grandkids, over the past five years. Nine kids of which I gave them their first job.

Now my youngest granddaughter “Bailey Leilani Barber“ is an up-and-coming. At 10 years old she’s not quite old enough to be employed at the trailer when we’re on the boardwalk. Or at our takeout window here at 320 1st Street in CB. However, she’s a young Entrepreneur who has started her own jewelry business. I’m very proud of her.

Here’s where I’m asking the community for their continued support.

“Bailey Lei“ will be setting up her jewelry table in front of our takeout window tomorrow, Tuesday 7/21 from 12 noon to 3 PM. She will be selling her original jewelry pieces (bracelets, necklaces, and keychains, etc.) Please see photos attached.

I would really appreciate the community coming out and checking out Bailey’s creations tomorrow.

Please consider purchasing some of her work and assist her in expanding her Entrepreneurial spirit. She’s worked hard and spent her own money to start up a small business. Way to go girl!

“Grandpa Hawaii Tropical Treats” at 320 1st Street, CB will be offering a promotion to support Bailey.

Buy $15 or more of her jewelry and get a free Soft Serve cup (chocolate and vanilla, or Swirl currently being offered)

Buy $25 or more and get a free medium Shave Ice (syrups of your choice).

Buy $50 or more and get TWO FREE Medium Shave Ice with our Famous Coconut snow cap topping added ;-)

If one wants to come and support Bailey and get a takeaway GPHTT coupon/certificate for free treats in the future, that can be arranged as well.

I’m really hoping that Bailey is inspired and wants to come back and offer her creations again and again. More announcements about that to follow.

My fondest Aloha to those who can come out and support her tomorrow. As the weather may change late afternoon tomorrow, she will only be set up for three hours from 12 noon to 3 PM. We hope to have her back and we will announce that soon.

Mahalo (Thanks)! With Aloha, GPH

We had the privilege to support the Summer Kids Camp recently with our Shave Ice services out in Bowling Green. It was put on by the Port Royal Volunteer Fire Dept. They put on demonstrations on fire safety and held an all day camp for about 35-40 kids. Including the adult volunteers and fire dept. personnel, we served about 100 shave ice in about 3 hours. I never get tired of being around the Kids energy and enthusiasm when Shave Ice is involved. We even posed for a group "Shaka sign" photo at the end. I was grateful to offer our services for such a worthy cause.

Aloha Community. Can anyone recommend a mobile appliance repair outfit or an individual repair person that could come to my place of business to check out my stackable Washer / Dryer? The washer runs well but the dryer recently stopped producing heat so I can't fully dry items in the dryer. Any referrals would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Mahalo (Thanks) to the Colonial Beach Chamber of Commerce for putting on another great Potomac River Festival. We had our GrandPa Hawaii Shave Ice mobile trailer right on the boardwalk near the bathrooms again this year. We had great weather, a good turn out of people and amazing Fireworks at the end of Saturday night.

We plan to be back down there on the boardwalk for this Sunday's Father's day Car show. Come visit and get some authentic Hawaiian Shave Ice. With Aloha, GPH.

We had a great weekend with our Grandpa Hawaii Shave Ice, Mobile Shave Ice trailer at the Potomac River Festival this last Saturday and Sunday. We were located right on the boardwalk with mostly good weather all weekend. A lot of people came out both days. The fireworks were the bomb. The best fireworks I can remember in years and years. It’s amazing how they make those pyrotechnic designs in the sky. Truly Night Sky art was on display. Great job Town of Colonial Beach.
