So we asked our graduating senior Jordyn Savage a few questions and to come up with a Senior Sensation flavor to be featured at Buck's. Before she crosses the stage and enters the real world in the next few weeks.
How long have you worked at Buck’s? And what will you miss most about Buck’s or your time in Eckle Hall?
I started working at Buck’s my second semester of sophomore year so a little over 2 years. I will miss making different flavors of ice cream as well as trying them all. I will also miss talking with my coworkers throughout the week about literally anything.
For your senior sensation what flavor of ice cream did you produce and why?
For my senior flavor I chose to make a pear flavored ice cream but call it a pear parfait. This ice cream is pear based with graham cracker pieces to make it feel like a parfait. I chose this flavor because I really love pears and pear flavoring itself. I’m really glad that I chose this as my senior flavor because it does bring back memories from the summers back at home where I would eat them all the time. I also have not personally seen a pear flavor ice cream, so I thought why not create it.
What is your favorite memory of your collegiate experience?
My favorite memory would be going abroad to Florence, Italy. This was an amazing experience where I got to meet amazing people, explore a new culture, and learn some Italian. I would definitely go back. Another memory would be all the events that I participated in for Buck’s, it was a great time sharing our ice cream with the community.
What is a piece of advice you’d give to a freshman at Mizzou or someone new coming into food science?
For a freshman coming to Mizzou, I would say to go to at least some of the sports events even if you don’t like sports, the atmosphere is incredible and it’s just a great experience to be apart of. For incoming food science students, definitely look into working at Buck’s and also join FSA because you will meet a lot of people that have the same interests as you.
