Hi everyone! As many of you have heard, we officially sold Once Upon a Sandwich yesterday. We are really excited for the new owners and are looking forward to supporting and eating at their restaurant. Our family has truly enjoyed getting to know all of you and we look forward to running into you around town in the future. Thank you for your love and support.
We have received so many beautiful messages about how much your families enjoyed the restaurant and are so grateful for your kind words. There have also been lots of questions as to why we closed. In the end, there are always multiple reasons behind significant decisions to open or close a business. For us the main reasons included our non-profit in home care company that takes care of people with developmental disabilities in Arizona. We started that 501 c 3 after our 5 year old son passed away. Possible budget cuts last year put us in a position to decide where our focus needed to be and we chose the company that was founded in memory of our son. It has nothing to do with our preference between Cortez or Arizona because we love both equally and live here in Cortez.
We also had some scary health concerns pop up in October that we didn't want to share. While we are so grateful to be healthy now, that encouraged us to focus a little more on our immediate family.
Our son has also joined the Navy and is in nuclear engineering. Having the time and freedom to travel and see him whenever we want has become our priority.
