So it’s been a hot minute, but there’s something worth coming out of retirement to post. Former Flatty Fam members Andy Ivie and David Fleming have experienced a real tragedy in the loss of their home and belongings. Andie and David were long time fixtures in our kitchen fryin’ up frickles, plating your chicken avocado salad, and bringing smiles to their coworkers faces on the regular. There’s a long road to recovery physically and financially and I’d appreciate it more than you know if you could pitch in as you’re able to help. Once family always family.

Cheers, Dave

Hey all, Dave Marliave here. I know I’ve been radio silent for a minute, and that’s because there’s some big news to announce and I’d be lying if I said I weren’t stalling a bit. Usually I do this kind of thing via video, but I hope you’ll understand why I chose to do this one in writing. After 14 years, 11 as Corvallis’s Flat Tail Brewing and 3 as Albany’s New Spring Beer Co. , I’m here today to say that my time as owner/brewer of this iconic operation is formally coming to a close. While you will still be able to find New Spring on tap around town for the next few months, once stock is gone, it’s gone for good.

This wasn’t an easy decision, and it certainly has not been made lightly, but after the events of 2020 and five long years tied up in the court system, I am simply too tired to continue this one man show any longer. It’s time to move on and make this decision for myself and my family, with the hopes of finding some semblance of normalcy and stability in the future. I know many will be disappointed by this; it is certainly bittersweet on my end. Rather than lament the loss though, I sincerely hope we can all take this opportunity to remember the past 14 years, and everything they’ve meant to so many of us. If you have a favorite Flat Tail or New Spring moment please don’t hesitate to share a story or a photo in the comments.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be throwing a couple farewell events around town, and I hope you’ll come out and say hi, drink a beer, and shed a happy tear with me. Our first event will be this Thursday at The Brass Monkey 6pm-9pm. I’ll be there with multiple New Spring Beers on tap, plus some limited bottled gems from the Flat Tail cellar, including Spigot Licker, and even a bottle or two of Yes and No, the beers I brewed for my proposal way back in 2012.

If you feel so inclined, the legal battle (somehow) still continues and all of us involved would greatly appreciate a donation, or even just a share of on your socials. Otherwise, tip one back for the crew that built something truly special at that big brick building in downtown Corvallis. I know I’ll never forget those wonderful years, and I hope you don’t either.

We can’t thank Ezra at the New School enough for bringing our story to light, and all of you for reading and sharing. Our battle rages on, with over $50,000 in legal fees since we received the unanimous verdict in our favor this June; so please, if you’re able, consider donating to or sharing our GoFundMe page tonight.

From Dave: Hey all, first things first, a HUGE thank you to everyone who has donated or shared our story so far. I can't tell you enough what it means to all of us. Your donations have helped pay for legal expenses and given our families a taste of relief and support that we very much needed. The battle for us is far from over however, and we need your help more than ever now. With monthly legal fees exceeding our combined household salary on a regular basis, and many more months of bankruptcy and appeal proceedings left to finance, we simply cannot do this without financial support from all of you. We realize that times a tough for most of us right now, so if you are unable to donate please consider sharing our GoFundMe link and our story with anyone and everyone you can. You'll find a link to the original New School Beer article copied below.

On a positive note, our charity beer "Raptor Princess IPA" benefiting Erica Leslie Ash has so far raised $1,000 for Erica's medical fund. We should be sold out by the end of the month or so and should reach a total donation amount around $3,000 to Erica's medical fund. If you'd like to donate directly to her fund you can do so at the link below, and you can also come hang out with me at Calapooia Brewing this December 14th and 15th (3pm-8pm) and pick up a case of Raptor Princess to help the cause that way.

Thank you all again, so much, for continuing to support and believe in us as we near the end of our fourth year attempting to right the wrongs done to us, our families, our employees, and all those impacted so greatly by the actions of our former friends and business partners. With your help we hope to finally find justice at the end of this long road.

I know we’ve been gone for a while now, but in case you didn’t know, Brewer Dave is still rockin’ the brewhouse for his new brand, and as it turns out, he’s pulled a couple Flatty Faves out of the cellar for a special release. Pink Lemonade Sour, and “Little Fields”, a “Little Green” tribute collabo with Common Fields both debuting this Friday ! Dave will undoubtedly be on sight to hang out and chat beer, the new brewery, and days gone by. Seeyah soon!
