In February 2018 we purchased this beautiful little building that was built in 1892 on Main Street. We created Miners Restaurant. We took an empty building and created something special. James left his job of 24 years in the defense industry for us to follow in his Papa’s footsteps of running our own restaurant.
From March until we opened. We got everything ready. We tested food. We tested products. We only wanted the best. We invited friends and fellow business owners to a dinner. Testing out some of what we wanted to serve.
In May 2018 Memorial Day weekend we opened our doors. It was amazing ! Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
We loved our customers. We had our regular Creede locals year-round and we had all our traveling guests from May to October.
You supported us from day 1. The first 2 years I was so sick w my bleeding ulcer. You loved on me & my family. You prayed for me. You provided my family w food. You took care of us all while my family took care of you while you were in our restaurant.
In May 2020 we received word that my Breast Cancer returned to the plural of my lung. I was stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. After much talk and prayers, I asked James to take me back home to Texas to where I could be close to family in August 2020. We had only been in our new cabin a little over a year and Miners was thriving. Covid did not hurt us. We were made for take out.
When I asked James to take me home he didn’t hesitate..he said ok.
We put our new cabin on the market. It sold almost immediately. We put the restaurant up for sale and started to sell all the decor and clear it out. In Sept 2020 we closed doors for good … so we thought.
Miners was still for sale and we moved back to Fort Worth. We bought a brand new home. I was home w my family w the exception of Zoe who moved to NM.
In March 2021 the restaurant was still for sale and just sitting there. I told James I wanted to go back for the Summer of 2021. We still own it and so why not ?? He agreed. I started to go buy all new decor. We made our new smaller menu.
It was so good to be back. So many were surprised and told us how happy they were we were there. Again you came in and supported us. We had a wait time sometimes of 2 hours, or we had so many to-go orders we had to stop accepting orders. You made our last summer the best. We had ice cream lines down the sidewalks and the park next door full of our customers eating their meals or ice cream. It got to the point we would have to empty the city trash cans bc they were overflowing lol.
On August 30, 2021, we once again closed our doors.
Today March 15, 2022 Miners is under new ownership and no longer ours. Last Thursday we signed the papers. Many tears flowed.
A group of investors have bought Miners. You will see many new faces. They are creating a new menu and several other new things for the restaurant.
We won several awards while we were open. For us never have been in this business before we are proud of what we created.
Our dream for Miners was to be family owned and a family friendly place where we hoped you felt at home. My prayer is that you felt like family while you were there.
Please know you are not just friends you became family. You are all very special to us. You will never know how much we appreciate you.
We are looking to open a “Miners” in FW, just with a different name. We are looking at properties. We are talking & praying about what our next step will be.
Creede will always be our little Mountain Town.
God's plans for our lives are not always our plans, but we are thankful He is the one in control.
We love you all. Thank you for 4 great years.
