Today Eddie Kaye and his wife Mika and brother Andre stopped by for tea.
Ed owns 2 English schools in Taiwan. We talked about Tai Chi and AI and art and, of course, tea.
I got some great compliments on my tea making abilities ( gongfucha ) which is really something coming from people who live in Taiwan. Taiwan is home to a lot of the world's greatest, cleanest teas.
It was later in the day, so I just kept it simple with Taiwanese Baozhong. I'm really learning to get something special from the tea using the cast iron tetsubin I recently picked up. It's totally different mechanics with some extra steps, but I'm slowly smoothing out the process. The tea comes out even better than with an electric kettle 💚🍵

Constantly refining the process 🍵
I picked up a very special vintage ( 1960s? ) cast iron Japanese tetsubin from .
Now when you have tea here you get an experience incorporating all 5 elements - Water, Fire, Metal, Earth, Wood.
Corpses don't stink in the mountains
there's no need to bury them deep
I might not have the fire of samadhi
but enough wood to end this family line.

Rain soaks my hut then the sun shines
weather can change in the blink of an eye
but not as fast as the breath of existence
at dusk it's hard to hear the morning bell

I had tea today with Bryan Conti.
Bryan is the bar manager at the Pabst Theater Group. Bryan also side hustles as a real estate agent.
We talked about his recent trip to Iceland where he and his wife got to see Puffins and Whales and a bunch of other cool wildlife.
We talked about music and the Bruce Springsteen reissue of his minimalist 4 track cassette recorded album, Nebraska.
We also talked about the challenges on being homeowners.
Outside today was 92°, so I made us one of my absolute favorite hot weather teas: Taiwanese Baozhong.

"Work will become your practice no matter what task you are engaged in. Wherever you are, you will be able to regulate, attune, and refine your mind. On the one hand, you are practicing, and on the other, you are interacting with others while maintaining a stable mind. Wherever you are, that will become your practice."

I had tea today with Kevin Sloan.
Kevin is a chef who has worked at Sanford and owned his own restaurants - The Social and Solfire.
Most recently, Kevin worked for 15 years as head chef for the Pabst Theater Group where he cooked for hundreds of high level touring artists including Ringo Starr, Wu Tang Clan, Aretha Franklin and many more.
We talked about his experience with culinary school in New Mexico, our favorite Milwaukee area spots and working in rock n roll.
We also talked about fixing up houses and personalizing our living spaces.
Kevin is currently working on a video series where he cooks his favorite recipes and tells the story of how they're meaningful to him.
I started us out with Baozhong from Taiwan and then moved to some ripe puer.

The latest and last addition to my altar at the tea house is Ksitigarbha or Jizo ( Japan ).
Ksitigarbha is a Bodhisattva who has taken on the task of emptying out all the suffering from hell.
A conversation with Gemini some months back got me thinking about how Dale Cooper could be considered a version of Ksitigarbha traveling through the Black Lodge to get to Laura Palmer.
I'm hoping to consult Ksitigarbha when, from time to time, I'm stuck in my own personal hells of depression and loneliness.
From Gemini:
"Beyond the scriptures, Jizo represents the idea that compassion does not require perfect conditions or deep esoteric knowledge to be effective. He serves as a reminder that care is possible even in "messy" or difficult situations."

This is Char ( ).

Char event manages and serves at a Milwaukee restaurant. Char also regularly competes in submission only grappling tournaments in both Gi and Nogi categories.

We talked about life in Milwaukee and how she settled in Wisconsin. We talked about hospitality work and, of course, Jiu Jitsu.

Char likes tea a lot, so I served a few different varieties - roasted oolong, some raw puer, and one of my favorite black teas.

Courtney and Nathan ( ) stopped by for tea. They work for in the educational department.
We had a good conversation about where they're both from, where they went to school, and how they both ended up in Milwaukee.
We also talked about the concert Copland/Twain which had its debut in Milwaukee with the MSO in May.
We drank some Baozhong and roasted oolong.

I had tea with Keighley.
Keighley is an artist that goes by the name of on IG. She is also a member of art collective.
We had a very high energy, good vibe conversation that scatter shot many different topics from art, art residencies and goal setting to diet and concussions.
We both shared a moment about having something like not-agoraphobia - where we're both not necessarily afraid to leave the house, but where we both feel a strange pull to stay inside even when we would like to go outside.
We started off with a roasted oolong. I followed it with a high mountain oolong.
