Soon after, many vendors began including additional ingredients such as chewy tapioca balls, called pearls when smaller in size and boba when larger, which were added into the drink as a snack. These pearl milk teas and boba teas became such a fashionable drink, that the beverage's popularity quickly spread throughout Asia, then Europe, and eventually to the United States. Although the two are actually different, the names 'bubble tea' and 'boba tea' are typically used interchangeably in the US. The Quickly Corporation started with its first bubble tea cafe in Taiwan over 20 years ago and is now one of the largest tapioca milk tea franchises in the world.
