Food 3.0

Food 3.0 Our current food system is unsustainable. We think that needs to change. www.food3point0.com
Texas A&M AgriLife Research & Extension So, what’s the solution?

The Problem
Agriculture as we know it today (i.e. the domestication of plants and animals) was developed at least 10,000 years ago. Productivity was low, world population was small and resources were plentiful. Let’s call this period in history, Food 1.0. Food 2.0 began with the mechanization of agriculture during the late 19th and 20th centuries, bringing with it new technologies and dramatic inc

reases in production. At the beginning of the 20th century, world population was just over 1 billion. Today, it’s approximately 7 billion. As a result of the dramatic increase in the number of mouths to feed, today's high productivity agriculture depends on massive inputs of non-renewable energy, water and chemicals. This system simply isn’t sustainable. We must find a way to increase yields or demand will continue to exceed production, driving the cost of food higher and higher. Glad you asked. We call it Food 3.0 and it has 3 goals.
1. Eliminate production losses
2. Reduce non-renewable inputs
3. Optimize plants for low-input production
