“AWARENESS IN ANALOG”
The experience of analog media is so inspiring to us. It challenges our hurriedness and entitlement for accessibility to everything at once. It is a physical artifact that carries the effort of art in the current moment; a tangible opportunity to appreciate the present.

We wanted to package these beautiful coffees in a medium that matters more than a vehicle for beans. We wanted to tell a subtle story of rarity and value of each lot, the limited accessibility the world has to these producers (and thus, their accessibility to you), and the ritual and appreciation of something craft.

Vintage Cassettes were our muse.

We wanted to source the best possible package quality, so we worked directly with an audio company that writes tape, presses vinyl, and duplicates other analog media for artists around the world. 

The coffees are vacuum sealed and frozen to maintain freshness, and dosed in 15g increments for your preferred brewing method. Altogether, each full set comes with 12 single doses–

“Burning a Light at Night”
As a silkworm spins its cocoon
I spin my own night

That’s when I work forgetting everything
At night everyone recedes to distant places
All things visible become invisible
and for pampered me
gently thoughtfully melt into the darkness

Inside a world for myself alone
I gleam just as mosses and fireflies do
Wishing to live out a good life
to deepen my heart’s desire to yearn for the beautiful
I weave a few quiet lines
with my fingers still soiled from my daytime work

A drop of my nightly world,
my small solitary world with my own light on,
my egg-shaped world for recollections and wishes,

Momiji (紅葉) refers to the red and golden autumn leaves that color the landscapes of Japan each fall. The word describes both the Japanese maple tree and the broader phenomenon of seasonal leaf changing, known as Koyo. In Japanese culture, Momiji symbolizes beauty, renewal, and the impermanence of nature, and is deeply rooted in Japan’s history and poetry. To grasp its significance, we look back at how this tradition began and evolved into a national appreciation of nature’s fleeting beauty, from the Heian courts to today’s cultural celebrations. The word Momijigari (紅葉狩り)– literally meaning “hunting red leaves” sounds active, but it is an act of stillness, a quiet observation of nature’s fleeting perfection.

Sora (空) is used in Japanese poetry to often describe the “sky”. Interestingly, in Japanese, the meaning of 空 lies somewhere between “nothing” and “heaven”. Depending on the context, it can represent the sky above us, both literally and in terms of limitations we face. It can also be used in the context of “air”, “nothing”, or “the path of least resistance”– reminiscent of the activity and posture of Momijigari. It is an increasingly common birth name, as its timeless allure lies in its ability to evoke a sense of boundless potential and transcendence.

SUBASTA POR LA PAZ

Last August, we had the privilege of participating in the Subasta por la Paz in Bolivar, Colombia. It was an honor to connect with some of the producers we’ve come to love, and to visit the hometown of our friend .bermudeztapia

He told us of the culture there, and the youth’s growing disinterest in coffee cultivation due to their witness of financial pressures and cartel activity in the region. This Auction for Peace was held in order to demonstrate that there’s a future in specialty coffee production, and that there are good people who are eager to support it. Schools and businesses were closed so that all could see their friends and families break records for some of the most expensive coffees sold in Colombia. For one of the first times, there was opportunity for Bolivar producers.
