I have worded this & reworded this in my head so many times so I’m just going to go ahead & put it out there & try not to upset anyone….
No, we do not have frozen yogurt any longer. We actually stopped serving it back in November (6 months ago) after we had to pour out 21 gallons of spoiled froyo. The people who are just now figuring out we no longer have froyo haven’t been in our cafe since last November, most of them since last summer. We’ve had grown men pitch temper tantrums because we no longer have froyo. Some of the comments/reactions have been absolutely ridiculous! 🤦🏻♀️ (Please stop being ugly to restaurant employees, especially mine). Most of our customers have understood & have been so nice after we explained why we stopped having it.
A business, especially a small family owned & ran business, is just not sustainable if people are only visiting 1 or 2 times a year. We truly gave it everything we had for almost 12 years but the froyo business just wasn’t profitable any longer so we made a business decision to eliminate it. (We still offer froyo for corporate caterings because those are large quantity purchases & can be planned). If froyo sold all year long, we would still have it.
Why not have froyo during the summer months? Once we started serving food, we quickly discovered that we couldn’t take care of our food customers if we were behind the registers, filling up froyo machines, toppings, etc. Last summer it was very clear to us that we had to make a decision and all of us were in agreement that the cafe side was bringing us more joy & sustainability than the frozen yogurt side had ever brought us. By November, our decision was made for us when we poured out so much spoiled yogurt.
No, we no longer make gourmet donuts either. We actually stopped making them over a year ago. One day we might sell 1 donut (yes, ONE) and then we might sell 3 dozen the next day. It was very rare for us to sell more than 3 dozen donuts a day. We were having to throw our batter away every night & there wasn’t enough profit for us to do that. Most of us small business owners don’t have endless amounts of money to waste on products that don’t sell. Dunkin’ Donuts has a line wrapped around their building to Cleveland Hwy every day. I see it every time I drive that way. If our donuts had been that popular, we would still be making them! Honestly, Dalton slept on our donuts.
To be honest, our breakfast & dinner business may be what we have to stop offering next. We are averaging 5 - 10 breakfast & dinner customers a day. That isn’t sustainable. Restaurant owners have to constantly review their menu & eliminate the items that aren’t adding value/paying the bills. Right now, our breakfast & dinner business falls into this category.
We still get people every day who come in for froyo/ice cream & have no clue we serve food. We post on social media every day, sometimes multiple times a day, so we are at a loss of how to get the word out there.
We are in the very beginning stages but there may be a name change in our future. We think this will help people realize we are an actual restaurant and not an ice cream shop. We will let you all know as soon as decisions are made….
No, we are no longer a froyo shop. We are a full service restaurant & we are loving this change! We still have ice cream, homemade cobbler, and fried pies but we are slowly going away from counter service. We will be adding cakes, pies, & other goodies in the future. Our dessert menu is gradually changing & we will post each time we make a change/addition.
Please support your local owned businesses! We are all trying to cater to our community and give you all what you want but we can’t offer items that we lose money on. Dalton has so many local owned restaurants that are amazing!!
We get asked “what do you need to be successful” and “how is your business doing” several times a week… honestly, just knowing our customers love us this much is such a blessing! Our goal is to cultivate meaningful relationships with our customers who have become like family to us.
To everyone who loves our food, supports us on a regular basis, and who caters with us, THANK YOU!!! Thank you for enjoying our food that is made from family recipes. You all make our day when we get told our food reminds you of your Grandmother or Momma’s cooking! Most of our recipes are from our parents and grandparents & we take immense pride in that. Because of your support, we have been able to evolve our restaurant into what it is now & we are so very thankful for you.
