Well now y’all… I’ll tell you what… I woke up this mornin’, rubbed my eyes, looked at that calendar hangin’ crooked on the wall, and near ’bout fell out the door when I realized it was Thursday.
Not just any Thursday neither — that Thanksgiving Thursday that sneaks up on you like a stray cat lookin’ for supper.

And Lord have mercy… if busy had a cousin, it’d be sittin’ right here in my kitchen tappin’ its foot, because we have been runnin’ around like chickens that forgot where the coop was.

I’m talkin’…160 deviled eggs — and I swear every one of ’em tried to roll off the counter at least once
7 pans of dressing — the kind that smells like your grandma’s house when she opened the oven and the whole world felt right
6 turkeys — big ol’ birds that took up every inch of oven space like they paid rent
4 hams — shiny and sweet like they were dipped in sunshine
2 cauldrons of green beans — yes ma’am, cauldrons, because pots don’t do ’em justice
7 cabbage heads shredded for slaw — I’m still pickin’ cabbage outta my hair

I’m tellin’ you… somebody better show up hungry, because if this food don’t get eaten, I’m gonna have to start knockin’ on doors like a Thanksgiving Jehovah’s Witness.

What's on the menu:
Dressing with choice of turkey or ham
With
Potato salad
Slaw
Deviled eggs
Green beans
Mac and cheese
Or sweet potato casserole

Don't leave the dessert cooler hanging either
It is packed to the brim with:
Sweet potato cheesecake
Butterfinger cake
Strawberry pretzel
And so many more homeade desserts.

But truth be told… this is my favorite day of the whole dadgum month. There’s just somethin’ about folks gatherin’ up, laughin’, talkin’, fillin’ their plates, and lettin’ the world slow down for a minute.
So come on down, grab you a plate, sit a spell, and let your belly full.

Well now… look at ol’ Hump Day easin’ its way across the week like a hound dog stretchin’ out on a porch step. I swear it feels like Wednesday tip‑toed up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder askin’ if I was ready or not.

Lawd, y’all… The Rooster was out LATE last night. We hauled a big ol’ catering order clear out to Lawrence County, down in Hatton to be exact — and let me tell you somethin’, that right there gave me the best excuse in the whole wide world to swing by and see my mama.
Ain’t nothin’ like walkin’ into her house and smellin’ that fresh country air mixed with whatever she’s got simmerin’ on the stove. It’ll heal places in you that you didn’t even know were hurtin’.

I rode roads I ain’t laid eyes on in years — roads that used to be gravel, roads that used to be nothin’ but cow pastures and pine thickets — and I’ll be switched if it didn’t feel like I’d left the country and come back to a whole new one.
Funny how you can be just an hour down the road and still feel like you’ve crossed over into a different lifetime.
And let me tell you… I sure do miss ridin’ them mountain roads. Windows down, elbow propped up, that cool mountain air rushin’ in like it’s tryin’ to tell you all its secrets. The sound of the mountains ain’t loud — it’s soft, steady, like a heartbeat you forgot you had. And no matter which road you take, no matter how twisty or narrow or wild it gets… you always come out somewhere. That’s the magic of it.

Waterfalls, Trails, Swimmin’ holes, Campgrounds.
If you ask me, the best place in the world to spend a weekend is tucked up in them mountains where time slows down and your soul finally catches up with you.

But now listen here — let me quit ramblin’ and get y’all the Wednesday menu before somebody hollers at me:

Lawd have mercy, y’all… the good Lord done cracked open another beautiful Monday, and I swear when I stepped out on that gravel this mornin’, the air had that just‑washed feel, like the whole world got scrubbed clean overnight.

The Rooster’s doors are swung wide open, lights hummin’, skillets sizzlin’, and we’re sittin’ here waitin’ to see all your sweet familiar faces wander in, one by one, just like you always do.

Now listen here — I gotta give y’all a lil heads‑up. Tomorrow, we’ll be closin’ at 3 o’clock sharp. I’ve got somethin’ mighty important goin’ on, and I need to be 100 percent present, not halfway in the kitchen and halfway out the door. So come get your belly full early tomorrow, alright?

And don’t you forget — this Thursday is Thanksgiving Thursday, and you already know how we do. It’s gonna be one of those days where the whole place smells like your grandma’s kitchen and folks sit around laughin’ like cousins at a reunion.

🍽️ Now… what’s cookin’ today?
Baby, we’ve got ourselves a Southern showdown:
Meatloaf — slow‑baked, tender, smothered, the kind that tastes like somebody’s mama still loves you
Fried Pork Chops — crisp edges, juicy middle, fried just right

Sides that’ll make you close your eyes and hum:
Collards — cooked down low and slow
Pintos — seasoned like a memory
Cream Corn — sweet, silky, and just a lil messy
Mashed Potatoes — fluffy enough to nap on

And if you ain’t been out back lately, sugar… that patio is sittin’ there lookin’ like a postcard. The breeze slips through like it’s tryin’ to tell you a secret, and the chairs are waitin’ for you to plop down and stay longer than you meant to.

Good morning everyone!! We are open and have our regular Sunday menu today. We can’t wait to see everyone!!

Good Thursday mornin’, Rooster Nation — the best day of the whole dang week, if you ask me, and I reckon a good many of y’all feel the same way.
We woke up to another blessed, golden‑hued Alabama mornin’, the kind where the air’s already hummin’ before you even get your first sip of sweet tea. I hear we might get us a lil sprinkle of rain this afternoon — nothin’ wild, just one of those soft summer showers that tiptoe across the pavement and make the world smell like warm dirt and childhood.
And let me tell y’all somethin’… I was standin’ in that kitchen the other day, hotter than a cast‑iron skillet left out in August, and I looked at Renee and said, “Honey, I ain’t never been more thankful for rain in my whole life.” It don’t cool that kitchen all the way down, but Lord have mercy, it sure does help a whole lot.

Now listen… I know it’s hot.
I know it’s the kind of hot where your shirt sticks to your back before you even make it to the truck.
But every weekend, this little ol’ community of ours is bustin’ at the seams with things to do, and I’m tellin’ y’all — get out and support your locals. You got the farmers market with everything from tomatoes to handmade soaps to that one fella who always sells somethin’ you didn’t know you needed until you saw it.
You got local restaurants who depend on seein’ your smilin’ faces walk through their doors.
You got fireworks still poppin’ off — I believe there’s one in Priceville this weekend — and ain’t nothin’ like watchin’ fireworks with your people, sweat rollin’ down your back, kids runnin’ around with glow sticks, and somebody’s uncle hollerin’ “WHOOO LORD” every time a big one goes off.
So y’all get out there.

Support your neighbors.
Support your community.
Support the folks who make this place feel like home.

Alright now… let’s talk about what’s cookin’ today at The Rooster.
🌾 MENU FOR THURSDAY
Pot roast or beef stroganoff
Fried potatoes
Potatoes & carrots from the roast
Deviled eggs

Come on down and get your fix before the weekend kicks off.
Be thankful you woke up this mornin’, thankful for another day in this beautiful little corner of Alabama, and thankful for folks who love you enough to feed you right.

Lawd have mercy, happy hump day Rooster Nation.
We done slid ourselves right into the middle of the week like a biscuit into gravy — halfway to the weekend and already dreamin’ about takin’ our boots off and lettin’ our feet breathe.

You know how it is… certain things just trigger your thoughts.
Not the big things, not the loud things — but them quiet little moments that sneak up on you like a June bug on a porch light.
I been spendin’ a few days out at Mama’s, and every time I head down Moulton Street toward Hwy 24, I slow down… real slow… right there at that one spot.
Some of y’all know exactly the one I’m talkin’ about — that big ol’ red building sittin’ there before you get to the beltline overpass.

Now I don’t know what it is anymore — might be somethin’, might be nothin’ — but back in the day, that was the sale barn.
And if you’re old enough to remember it, well sugar, you’re old enough to remember a whole lotta things we don’t talk about unless the good Lord or a cup of sweet tea loosens our tongues. That sale barn was where we sold just about everything with hooves, but mostly hogs.

Shoot, even the day I was brought home from the hospital, daddy swung right through Moulton by the hospital, with a load of hogs rattlin’ around in the back.
That’s when Moulton still delivered babies.
So technically, the first building I ever stepped foot in besides the hospital was a sale barn.

And I spent years in that place — learned animals, learned people, learned how things get sold and how folks act when money’s on the line.

And Lord help me, I learned how to get over heights.
They had this riser walkway up over the stalls — just 2x4s with a handrail — and the boards had gaps between ‘em big enough to make a little kid think she was gonna fall straight through to hog heaven.
I can still feel my tiny heart thumpin’ like a rabbit in a briar patch every time I stepped on one of those boards.
Funny how our lil’ minds worked back then — everything was bigger, scarier, louder.
Now we look back and laugh, but at the time?
Whew. Felt like walkin’ the high wire at the county fair.

Anyway…
I reckon that’s enough ramblin’ for one Wednesday.
