Our Story
The Rio Seasoning Company is a family-owned business that specializes in made-from-scratch, small batch, artisanal seasonings. Diva and Richard Curtis, husband and wife owners, founded The Rio Seasoning Company in 2014 using a recipe brought from Brazil over 30 years ago.
About three decades ago, a Brazilian chef wanted to create a special seasoning that was worthy of using in his restaurant. After a great deal of tinkering, he finally succeeded in creating a blend of spices and fresh vegetables that won the critical acclaim of his customers. In fact, his customers raved over the unique seasoning.
This chef’s niece, Diva, was given this seasoning recipe. Four years ago, Diva and Richard began making the seasoning from scratch in their kitchen. This makes the Rio Seasonings truly an artisan food experience. At first, they were just giving it away in Tupperware containers to their friends and family. Without exception, those who used it, loved it, and suggested that this unique blend should be available for others to enjoy.
Fast forward, and the Rio Seasoning Company is a family-owned business operating in Deer Park, WA (just north of Spokane). The Original flavor of Rio Seasoning was so popular, Diva decided to diversify the flavor and added “variations on a theme.” The additional flavors of the Brazil inspired seasonings are “Rio Hot” and “Rio Chicken”. They each have their own identity but are still part of the same family. What’s truly unique about all three flavors - Original, Hot, and Chicken - is that none of the flavors are made using any animal products*
