The food drive has been so successful that we need help. Most of it is being delivered. And we picked up 3,000 pounds yesterday in Newburgh. We still have almost 7,000 pounds to pick up in Newburgh and my van can’t hold that much. I’m looking for someone with a box truck (lift gate would be awesome) that would be willing to lend it (rent would be ok) or drive to Newburgh to pick up the rest of the food. Because these posts have been shared so widely, I ask that you either PM Jonah Shaw or email [email protected]. Thank you.

UPDATE FOOD BANK DONATIONS- We are up to $17,000 in donations in just 5 days. Can we make it to $20,000 in the next 24 hours? We are accepting donations until Saturday evening. Any late donations will still be used for the food bank.

We have leveraged our buying power to secure extra discounts on staples so that we may create “baskets” of non-perishable items so that pantries will have provisions ready for families in need. Each basket will contain the following items:

66 Ounce Can of Tuna Fish
2 Loaves of Bread
5 Pounds Peanut Butter
32 Ounce Canola Oil
5 Pounds Flour
1 Pound Sugar
4 Pounds Pasta
2 Jars Pasta Sauce
5 Pounds Rice
5 Pounds Black Beans
5 Pounds Oatmeal
1 Pound Raisins

Each basket will cost a little under $50 to purchase the materials. We are seeking donations to enable us to provide as many baskets as possible.

HOW TO HELP: Donate funds. Drop off checks to Good Cheap Food with food bank in memo, or use cash or use a credit card at the store. 100% of all funds will be used to purchase materials. Or Venmo -Shaw-1, last 4 digits of phone number is 4834.

VOLUNTEER TIME: If you would like to help us assemble baskets on November 22 & 23, please email [email protected]. Details to come about time and location.

PLEASE SHARE: Help us get the word out. Can you share to your email list, your friend group, on Facebook, with your church, or at the office? Anything you can do to get the word out this week will increase the number of baskets we can provide.

Thank you. We are humbled and grateful for your support, and love our community so much.

DEAR NEIGHBORS,
FOOD BANKS ARE EMPTY

The food banks of Delaware County are empty. We believe our neighbors should not have to go hungry during these difficult times. Good Cheap Food is organizing a drive to refill the pantry shelves before Thanksgiving. Time is short. Please read our plan and determine if you are able contribute or volunteer.

TIMELINE:

We need pledges by Saturday, November 15. We will place orders that day for all the supplies. They will arrive during the following week. We will host volunteers on Saturday and Sunday, November 22 & 23 to weigh out the dry goods and assemble baskets. We will deliver baskets to the food banks on Monday, November 24.

Fancy yourself a chef? I'm looking...
Chef Wanted
This will not be your typical chef gig. Looking for someone with creativity and leadership to run a new team built from the ground up. Our market will be adding our own line of products as well as prepared meals and a small amount of on-premise dining. We want someone detail oriented that can follow an existing recipe, but also develop new recipes. They must cook with passion and love as those are two ingredients that we can't source elsewhere. We have lots of fun equipment including a state of the art smoker, ice cream batch freezer, fresh pasta extruder, dehydrator, giant mixer, meat grinders, steam kettles, and sausage extruders. There's not much we can't make here. We hope to offer soups, sauces, dressings, baked goods, granola, fermented items, pickled items, canned items, fresh pasta, and more — all ideas welcome. We will be offering a simple 1-3 item menu that will change frequently and include a breakfast sandwich, a soup, a salad, and a lunch sandwich. If you think you'll miss the hustle and bustle of a busy dinner service, we can do pop-up dinners occasionally. If you don't possess the background and skill to do all of the things listed, do not worry — it's a dream list and we will be starting small and growing. More important than the skill to make these items is the skill to lead and be accountable. Can you teach and give direction in an understandable manner? Will people follow you? Can you maintain morale? Can you come up with creative uses for expiring produce and other products from the market? You'll be responsible for record keeping, inventory and ordering. And super important is making sure our sanitation program is maintained. This is a daytime job, but weekends will most likely be required. Salary will be based on experience, but will be competitive with room to grow as you grow and we grow. Please send letter of interest and resume to [email protected]
