ded to hold weekly study sessions at Daybreak Coffee Roasters on 82nd Street in Lubbock, TX every Thursday. After studying each week's chapter over a coffee drink and a pastry, they would put the book away and play a game or two of chess. After a few months of driver's ed, the two of them continued their Thursday evening ritual over a chess board. The tradition continued another 2-3 years until it was time to move away for college. The routine allowed father and child to build a friendship that lasted until their father's passing a decade later, with coffee and a friendly game of chess always holding a special place in their hearts. Since those early years at Daybreak, a desire to serve coffee to others was born, and though this won't be their first time to serve coffee, this is their proud first endeavor on their own.
