Cold Brew: The Iced Coffee That Isn't Actually "Iced Coffee"
Welcome to this month's Coffee 101 newsletter! Today we're diving in to what exactly cold brew is and how it compares to standard iced coffee! ☕️
Here at Coffee Republic, we offer to serve cold brew as our only filtered coffee option available over ice, but we have our reasons!
Our beloved cold brew is made with balanced medium roast coffee beans (Shoutout to Disco Coffee 😉) that is ground coarsely and brewed in a large batch! The coffee grounds steep in cold water for a minimum of 20 hours to extract a super smooth taste, as well as a higher caffeine content than standard iced coffee.
So you may be asking yourself... what is regular iced coffee then? What's the difference?
Standard iced coffee differs from cold brew due to its brewing process as well as the amount of time taken to produce.
While cold brew steeps in cold water for hours and hours... iced coffee is brewed just like drip coffee, with hot water! The beans are measured out to create a more concentrated ratio of coffee grounds to water. This is done to account for the ice added to cool it down, which will inevitably melt.
We opt to offer cold brew to provide a more consistent and higher quality product!
