Happy Earth Day, friends! Today we took some time to slow down and enjoy the gifts Mother Earth has to offer. One of our favorite ways to slow down is tending to our little plot of land in Highland Park with our little family. I truly believe that having a piece of earth to tend is one of the most undervalued privileges we have in this country.

We have been persuaded to believe that a green expansive lawn is the standard. While there is certainly a place for grass in landscape design (if you wish), there are so many amazing and wonderful things to grow! It doesn’t have to be fancy, it just has to mean something to you.

I’m also so thankful that there are so many places to enjoy nature in the metro! These places are worth preserving and we deserve them.

Thank you to my BFF Drew for weeding the strawberries with me and taking our fam to get out of the house to see some crabapples.

Happy hearts this morning! Tom, aka , is in today’s !

Back in October 2022, we met Tom and learned about his uniquely curated collection of vintage books and instantly fell in love with what he was up to, so we asked him to have a popup with us. Jesse Pace, aka .dsm , came in as his first customer and the two hit it off immediately. Fast forward today, Tom is in the paper highlighted for opening up his shop within Jesse’s shop! And wow, that’s just so damn cool.

If you’re a book nerd, crate digger, vintage head, or just love checking out hidden gems in Des Moines, then add Rogue Planet Music/Insomniac Books to your list and spend some time chatting with Jesse and Tom. You won’t regret it.
