Minutes from the Old Home Association
August 17, 2024

The meeting was called to order by Vice President Judy (Wilbur) Craig at 1:24 pm with 42 in attendance. President Kathy (Wright) Dodge was unable to attend due to illness. The group met outside by the maple tree on this cloudy, cool day.
Thanks were given to the Dinner Committee led by Marietta (Turek) Edgerly. Thanks were also given to Tiffany Craig and Tom Briggs who had worked on cleaning the schoolhouse in the morning before others arrived. And finally, thanks were given to all who had made and brought the delicious food.
The Secretary’s report was read. Alexandra Crawford made a motion to accept the report as read and Eben Crawford seconded it. All were in favor. The Treasurer’s report was read. Bruce Hanson made a motion to approve the report and Alexandra Crawford seconded it. All were in favor.
Under old business, Amalia (Crawford) Petronzio reported on T-shirt sales. She has them with her and they can be purchased. She gave a reminder to those who had taken them last year to check to see if they still owed for them. Everest Crawford spoke about the project of creating the book of poems. He has the poems and will be hoping to have a mock up for it soon. Judy (Wilbur) Craig suggested that perhaps binding them like they do the town reports would make the cost reasonable. She knows someone in Dexter and will connect Everest with her over the coming week. Everest also stated that he will be meeting with Bruce Hanson, our poet laureate, after the meeting.
The Executive Committee report was given by Tiffany Craig. She and Tom Briggs had cleaned the floors and tables this year. They hope to wash the floor next summer before folks arrive. She spoke of concerns about the hooks on the windows and possibly needing to replace them. Judy (Wilbur) Craig who checks on the schoolhouse periodically throughout the year said that she had found the shutters open several times. It was suggested that perhaps the building was shifting or perhaps we have a ghost. It was suggested that a list of options be made for better securing the shutters. Tiffany also asked about getting padlocks with number codes rather than keys. A motion was made to purchase two new number combination locks for the doors and locks for the windows as needed. Alexandra Crawford moved and Amalia (Crawford) Petronzio seconded the request. All were in favor. Tiffany stated that she and Tom Briggs will donate the locks. The lawn was again mowed by Stewart’s. The group agreed that he does a very good job and agreed to continue with him. His company is covered by insurance for the work that he does. Marietta (Turek) Edgerly shared with the group that she had cleared some of the trees and bushes around the maple tree and from the road to the corner of the schoolhouse along the woods. She hopes to do more throughout the Fall. The group thanked her for her work. Alexandra Crawford made a motion to accept the Executive Committee’s report. Eben Crawford seconded it. All were in favor. Matthew Crawford checked on the age of the swing log. It was determined that it has been up for about ten years. Alex Edgerly offered that a cedar log could be cut from his property next door.
The group asked for Family Reports next. Don Hanson reported that Beatrice (Wilbur) Hanson, is doing well and still living on her own. Aaron Wright stated that he moved back home to Maine last January. His wife, Dylan Vogel-Wright, arrived in April. They are living in Windham where he works for the town. His mother, Kathy (Wright) Dodge, and his aunt, Wendy (Wright) Martin both missed the picnic due to being sick. His cousin, Abby Dodge, is now a cake decorator at Shaw’s. Kathy (Wright) Dodge is now the Queen of another organization that she belongs to. Eileen Crawford passed around a picture of Beatrice (Wilbur) Hanson and Barbara (Wilbur) Crawford from their eighth grade graduation. Barbara had kept it on her night stand. Adam Bowden reported that there wasn’t much new in his family. Linda Tisdale commented on how much she has missed being at the Old Home Picnic. Marietta (Turek) Edgerly is now living in Pittsfield. Her family is doing well. Bob Crawford reported that Barbara (Wilbur) Crawford passed away on July 7th. There would be a gathering to remember her at the cemetery the next day at 11 am. Carol (Carter) Wallace reported that another granddaughter, Hannah Wallace, had graduated from high School. Her granddaughter, Grace Wallace, graduated from college and now works as a dental hygienist in Ellsworth. Grace is also purchasing a home in Blue Hill. Carol fractured her back on her birthday in June, but is doing well recovering. Matt and Kate (Coggeshall) Crawford purchased his grandmother’s home at 16 Opal Avenue in Beverly, MA last year. Eileen Crawford is looking forward to spending time at camp on Puffer’s Pond. After asking Judy (Wilbur) Craig to help her find one to rent, it turned out that Carol and Leonard Wallace had one. Mary (Kohut) Montalbano and her husband, Mike, are here visiting for the week from California. Her twin brother, Will Kohut, is now living and working in Hong Kong. He recently got reunited with his dog. David Crawford announced that Amalia (Crawford) and Dan Petronzio were married again this year and held a reception. Jeff Crawford said that he and JoAnne (Finkle) Crawford, finished another year of camp. Their son, Everest, has returned to college (City College) in New York, where he lives, to work on his Master’s degree. Jeff also brought Mike Shannon, a long-time friend, to the picnic again. JoAnne now has an Icelandic horse. Amalia (Crawford) Petronzio made a motion to continue family reports during the meeting. Don Hanson seconded it. All were in favor.
Under new business, Marietta (Turek) Edgerly would like to look into having name tags next year. She suggested having mini family trees on them. Trudy (Monk) Hanson made a motion to have Jeff Crawford make mini family tree charts with Marietta (Turek) Edgerly and Linda Tisdale to help with the Robinson side of the family. JoAnne (Finkle) Crawford seconded the motion. All were in favor.
The Looking Through Time report was read. Bruce Hanson read his poem for this year “Anniversaries”. He also explained how and why he wrote the poem as well. He then read a second poem in memory of Barbara Crawford.
A discussion was held about how to dispose of past T-shirts that didn’t sell. Amalia (Crawford) Petronzio made a motion to have Tiffany make a T-shirt quilt with them, then bring it back next year and raffle it off. Alexandra Crawford seconded the motion. Amalia stated that she could bring raffle tickets. If anyone has extra T-shirts that they don’t want any more, please mail them to Tiffany.
Alexandra Crawford made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Eben Crawford seconded it. All were in favor and the meeting adjourned at 2:33 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Don & Trudy Hanson,

Minutes from the Old Home Association Meeting – August 19, 2023

Prior to the meeting a presentation was given by Rick Whitney from the Dexter Historical Society Museum. He is the curator. A college archeologist from Texas who summers in Dexter has conducted several digs in Dexter. This year’s was at the schoolhouse on July 10 and 11. Jerome Dana Forgotson, Judy Wilbur Craig’s grandson, was one of about 12 volunteers. Judy was there and took lots of pictures. Some of the things they found – old musket ball, cast iron toy cannon, glass (possibly parts of ink wells), cobalt blue glass, 2 glass beads, ½ of a clay marble, slate pencil tip, black jet bead ( like used decoratively on dresses) metal button, a 22 shell, a copper bracelet and some other beads. Most items were found 5-6 inches down in the soil. They found a fire area with pieces of pottery around it. Jerome found an Indian Head penny using a metal detector. They had amazingly little rain, considering the weather this summer. Items will be displayed until October 1st at the museum.
Marietta Edgerly announced that her son, Cole Edgerly had been to New Mexico for 12 weeks for archeology. He is majoring in anthropology.

The meeting was called to order at 2:08 pm by President Jeff Crawford by the trees. He noted that there are many things to look at after the meeting. The secretary’s report was read. A motion was made by Alexandra Crawford and seconded by Eben Crawford to accept the report as read. Motion carried. The treasurer’s report was read. It contained a recommendation to change the savings account to a checking account with a debit card with the current bank. JoAnne Crawford made a motion to approve the recommendation and Eben Crawford seconded it. The motion carried. The secretary/treasurers were instructed to set this up.
Under Old Business, Amalia Crawford announced that they had the T-shirts made. She is selling them for $25 per shirt, but you may give a larger donation. Eben Crawford fronted the money for them and once the money is in the treasury, he will be paid back. Joanne Crawford made a motion to sell the T-shirts and David Crawford seconded it to start selling the T-shirts immediately. Amalia and Brittany (Rhoads) Kohut will make a list of who owes money. Motion carried. JoAnne Crawford asked about what stage the book of poems by Bruce Hanson was at. Eileen Crawford had suggested this last year. President Jeff Crawford shared the book he had made of pictures he has of the elder generation from the OHA. He suggested perhaps something like that could be done with Bruce’s poems and some more of the old pictures. Bruce indicated he has about 20 poems from as far back as 2006, Alexandra Crawford made a motion, and JoAnne Crawford seconded it that Everest Crawford be put in charge of the project to look into making a book utilizing Bruce’s poems. Marietta also noted that she has been going through her mother’s (Florence Rideout Turek) pictures and would like to have help identifying the people and the years. Some might be suitable to add to this book project.
Under New Business, though it was partly old business, Tiffany Craig noted that we need to continue painting the building. It needs to be scraped, primed, and painted. We will need a crew and money for paint. The goal for next year would be to do the side towards the road. A motion was made to plan a separate weekend to do this next summer. Tiffany Craig was asked to lead the project. All were in favor. Marietta asked about trimming the branches around the property and cleaning inside the schoolhouse other than the day of the picnic. The group gave her permission to do these projects. It was noted that we also need to look into fixing the wallpaper. The Nominating Committee of Everest Crawford, Pat Frederiksen, and Susan Fetcher gave their report. The proposed slate officers for the next year are: President: Kathy Wright Dodge; Vice President – Judy Wilbur Craig; Co-secretary/treasurer – Don & Trudy Hanson; Executive Committee – Bob Crawford, Tiffany Craig, and Tom Briggs; Dinner Committee Chair – Marietta Turek Edgerly; and Poet Laureate – Bruce Hanson. A discussion was held on whether to continue the Vital Statistics committee. It was felt that it was working better to have folks give the information for their family in person at the picnic. There was also a discussion about whether to have an Entertainment Committee. No decision was made on this. Don Hanson made a motion and Bruce Hanson seconded to accept the slate of officers as presented. All were in favor. David Crawford gave a thank you to Jeff Crawford for his years of service as president which was followed by a round of applause.
The Executive Committee did not have a report this year. It was noted that Stewart’s did manage to get the lawn mowed for the picnic despite all the rain. A volunteer had also mowed it back in July for the archeological dig. Tiffany stated that she would be covering the cost of mowing for this year. It began to rain lightly. Our Poet Laureate, Bruce read a poem called Traces. It was enjoyed by all. He noted that he had a back-up poem also and he was asked to read that. Under Vital Statistics, it was noted that Cheryl McKusick passed away in April of this year; Dana Bowden in August 2022 after the picnic; and Florence Rideout Turek in December 2022. Marietta read a poem written by Marion Robinson Rideout (her grandmother). There were not any births noted this year. Amalia Crawford became engaged last August after the picnic to Dan Fettuccine and they were married in May of this year. Tyler Briggs graduated from high school this spring. The Looking Through Time report was read.
A motion to adjourn was made by Alexandra Crawford and seconded by JoAnne Crawford and Amalia Crawford. Tiffany Craig was opposed to the motion, but all others were in favor.
