Flatlanders Livin’ the Dream in Disney OK
Dreams come in strange sizes and shapes, but when a pair of Kansas flatlanders trade the Kansas prairie and 23 plus years of farming and ranching experience for ownership of an RV park, it’s not your average dream. Enter Rodney and Julie Reynolds. Neither had been to Grand Lake in many years and had spent a lot of their recreational time hiking and camping in places like Branson, but as Julie puts it, “We always had an adventurous spirit.”
That adventurous spirit included a dose of entrepreneurial projects over the years for fun and profit. Even though this pair, once described by their parents as wanna-be gypsies, both had long-time careers, Julies in education and Rodney with a lawn service business, there was always something on the side…like flipping six homes over the past twenty years. Julie is now looking forward to retirement from teaching, while Rodney has visions of expanding his lawn business to the Grand Lake area.
They had always had an interest in owning and operating an RV park, but that interest peaked in recent years. Earlier this year, they responded to an ad for what was most recently known as Two Acre RV Park. The listing realtor was Butler Real Estate’s Sheryl Fleming , who the Reynolds describe as a definite influence in their decision to make an offer on the property.
Julie says, “She immediately recognized we knew little about the Disney area. She promptly loaded us up in her vehicle and gave us a tour of the area, including Little Blue, the off-road area below the dam, the golf course, the Ketchum area and more. It was definitely a Chamber of Commerce tour and got us excited about the area’s possibilities.”
Soon an offer was submitted and the Reynolds were off and running…remodeled bathhouse and utility area, new office, upgraded septic and electrical system and water provisions and don’t forget the new name; Bigfoot Base Camp RV Park, a name they had stored in the back of their minds for their very own RV park.
