Dear customers and friends:

It was a cool November 17th in 2013 when we formed Baked by Gene, LLC. Since then, we have evolved from making cinnamon rolls in a commercial kitchen down the street (Gold Plate, thank you!) and selling them on Saturdays, to eventually focusing more on from-scratch lunches using our own made-in-house breads. We have met so many amazing people, some of whom are now part of our inner circle. In fact, besides sharing our love of cooking with everyone, seeing all of you every day has been the highlight of this venture.

We have been flexible and those of you who have been with us from the very beginning know just how much we have changed. We have seen other businesses come and go, made it through a pandemic, and struggled through several other incidents that tested our will.

Unfortunately, we aren’t getting younger or healthier, and our priorities are now shifting to preparation for retirement. With the cost of doing business skyrocketing, our resilience is waning. Those of you who own food establishments, especially ones where everything is created from raw ingredients, know what a stressful and taxing industry this is.

This is going to be the final week of serving our lunches to the good people of Du Quoin (and beyond) and we hope you all understand our situation and can be happy for us as we move forward with the next chapter in our lives.

We will still be around and may have some other things up our sleeve. Stay tuned!
