Discover Dance – Afrobeats is a free cultural dance program led by DJ Sunny Sistuki, originally from Kenya, and dancers ready to teach you the moves! The lively experience explores Afrobeats music and movement rooted in Pan-African rhythms from West, East, and Southern Africa—blending traditional sounds, modern Afrobeats, and dance education to introduce Afrobeat culture to the wider community.

As always, this event is an additional hub for the Cary Art Loop where you can explore artistic creations, crafts, and imaginative activities. Come to the Park for this family-friendly celebration, where retailers and food trucks add to the festive atmosphere of local arts and delicious cuisine.

This week, Virgil’s Jamaica and the town of Youngsville lost a truly special man and one of the finest tire technicians you could ever meet, Fidel Baez of Baez Tires, right in the heart of Youngsville. Fidel passed away this week surrounded by his loving family.

He didn’t just run a business he served people with genuine care, compassion and integrity. Your budget became his budget and no matter what automotive issue I brought to him he either fixed it or connected me with someone who could. For the past 13 years we’ve experienced firsthand the consistency, kindness and excellence that defined both him and his team.

We encourage everyone to continue supporting his family business as they carry on his legacy with the same love and dedication he showed to so many.

Join us today, June 20th at the Park for a jubilant Juneteenth Celebration curated by Historian Darrell Stover! Experience the spirit of “freedom dance” as movement takes center stage, honoring expression, resilience, and joy through live performances and moments that invite everyone to join in. Enjoy delicious bites from food trucks and explore vibrant vendors as we celebrate culture, community, and the power of dance.

Celebrated annually, Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger read federal orders in Galveston, Texas, that all previously enslaved Black people in the state were free. Today, Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a day marked with celebrations and special gatherings.

See below for the full schedule of the day! All performances will be on the Great Lawn Pavilion.

4 p.m.: Procession, Welcome, and Proclamation
4:20 p.m.: Libation
4:30 p.m.: SUAH African Dance Theatre
