My heart is so full of emotion right now. I have lived and grew up on Route 66 here in Edwardsville and in Monrovia, California. So many special memories with my mom, my kids and friends.
We purchased a building a few years ago on 66, working on it as time, money, and permits permit.
100 year anniversary of Route 66 and I wanted a Mural. Not just any mural. Jim Harper, Harper's Bizarre, wanted a mural as well. He started coming up with ideas and I would throw my specifications here and there.
1. Route 66, had to be something regarding the route. He agree'd.
Jim: "I want your family pictures"
Me: "Got it"
Jim: "I am putting one of my favorite buildings on it."
Me: "It needs a Map or partial map of Route 66 showing where we are."
Jim: "Done. I'm putting my friends car one it."
Me: "Hey I have this friend with a really cool old pick up."
Jim: "Got it"
Jim Harper designed something iconic, something so beautiful, unique, better than I ever imagined.
Now to the City of Edwardsville, Great Rivers & Routes and our champion James Arnold. James has so many ideas on how to get things done and the correct way. He knows what this all means to us.
Motion Passed, we can start the Mural.
The very next day, introducing Kelly Lee with Hype of Type and you have this beautiful work of art as you enter Edwardsville from the north on 66.
Over the past couple of weeks, so many people have driven to, walked to, cycled to our building. People from Georgia, Michigan, New Mexico, Virginia, and a couple from Arlington Texas who saw a picture of the building on a Route 66 page. A pic posted during the 66 festival here in Edwardsville.
They plugged in their GPS coordinance and drove to our building.
They are all 66 junkies like me. A love for this iconic road and the history it holds.
Please come take a look. We hope you like it and hopefully we will be open soon but in the meantime, enjoy the art and Thank You Edwardsville!
