Dear Conundrum Cafe Friends and Fans,

When we purchased the BUB (Big Ugly Building… now the Big Unique Building) in 2005, we saw such potential in this historic 1880 building located in the Village of Elberta on M-22. We truly wanted to make the Conundrum Cafe near the Betsie Valley Trail and beautiful Elberta Beach, a vacation destination. We wanted to be the “Best Little One Stop Shop in Benzie County”

The past 17 summers have been such a wonderful experience for us. From our first summer in 2006, we worked to make Conundrum Cafe a gathering place in Elberta. We wanted our fabulous customers and awesome staff to be a part of the “Conundrum Family” on “The Funky Side of the Bay”.

Whether you came for a latte, Joann’s Special, a piece of penny candy, select a mixed six pack or bottle of wine, have a cool treat, grab a unique root beer, rent a bike or kayak, worked in the cafe, or had “Rob the Bike Guy” repair your bicycle; we truly appreciate your support over the years. We will miss catching up and sharing stories. Your friendship has been priceless!

We do not know what the future holds for the building that we made a showcase for Elberta; but as we retire from the daily trappings of the business world we look forward to being regular “summer folk”. Look for us roaming the countryside towing our vintage Avion trailer (like an Airstream…only better because it was made in Benton Harbor, Michigan!) enjoying the beauty of Benzie County at our leisure!

Stop on by the Elberta Trailhead today!

Please join us on Saturday, May 20th at 11:00AM for an Open House! We'll be gathering at the trailhead building in the heart of Beulah. Enjoy some free snacks, pick up some Trail merch, and learn how to use the bike fix-it station. Benzie Bus will also have one of their vehicles there so you can learn how to use their bike rack mounts. This event is open to the public -- please share!
