L&R Soda Fountain is excited to announce that preparations are under way to re-open the popular restaurant located at 43 Public Square in Elkton. To celebrate this announcement,
the L&R Soda Fountain will participate in the City of Elkton’s Independence Day festivities and fireworks on July 3rd by offering scoops of ice cream that evening prior to the fireworks display. The L&R Soda Fountain was originally opened in Elkton, Kentucky in June of 2011 by Kenny and Heather Clayton in conjunction with the pharmacy business that they owned and operated at the time. The Soda Fountain restaurant, with its old-fashioned soda bar and ice cream treats, was operated as a tribute to the pharmacy profession and to independent drug stores and the important role that similar soda fountains in pharmacies played in small-town America. In early 2020, the Claytons elected to temporarily close the Soda Fountain to make some necessary improvements. The re-opening of the L&R Soda Fountain is now made possible by Kenny and Heather Clayton and the efforts of the Board of Directors of the newly formed Todd County Foundation, Inc., a Kentucky non-profit organization. This exciting collaboration between the Claytons and the Foundation will not only facilitate the re-opening of the popular destination restaurant, but all profits generated by the L&R Soda Fountain will be retained by the Foundation for reinvestment into the Todd County community through projects to improve and support the quality of life in the community. To assist the Foundation in reopening the Soda Fountain, the Foundation has selected Felix Diaz to serve as General Manager of the restaurant. Felix has a wealth of experience from many years in food service and restaurant management. The Foundation is confident that Felix will utilize this experience and his talents to carry the Soda Fountain through this transition and into the future. The Todd County community’s support and encouragement to Felix and his family will greatly enhance the Soda Fountain’s opportunity for success. The Board of Directors of the Todd County Foundation, Inc. consists of Billy Bingham, Kenny Clayton, Mark Collins, Deana Power, Lance Mansfield, Eston Glover II, and Jason Petrie, and is advised by Jeff Traughber. The Board members donate their time and do not receive compensation of any type. The Todd County Foundation, Inc. extends its deepest appreciation to all who have made this reopening possible. First and foremost, to Kenny, Heather, Lauren and Rachel Clayton for their contributions to the Foundation and for their vision and guidance in making this exciting community project a reality. (And also to Lauren and Rachel for being the inspiration for the “L&R” Soda Fountain name.) Secondly, to John Milkowski for his tireless efforts to find the best suited general manager for the L&R Soda Fountain. John generously volunteered his time and talents because he wanted to be a part of this community project that will reap benefits for this community for generations to come. And finally, a deep expression of thanks to the Todd County community. The consistent words of encouragement, interest and support to the Clayton family has made it clear that the Soda Fountain is an important fixture to this community. That level of interest demonstrates that the community will support this project to the fullest extent possible, which will in turn help the Foundation to reach its philanthropic goals in the community. The Todd County Foundation and L&R Soda Fountain will strive to be successful for many years to come. As we have seen over the last year, there may always be challenges and obstacles to arise along the way. However, if the Board, employees, and the community remain dedicated to a better Todd County, success is virtually certain. Thank You,
