Ever wondered what the labels actually mean when shopping for eggs? Here’s a quick breakdown:
🥚 Conventional/Standard Eggs
Typically come from hens raised in large commercial operations. These chickens are often kept indoors in tight spaces and may be fed conventional grain diets.
🌾 Cage-Free Eggs
Hens are not kept in cages, but they may still live indoors in crowded barns with limited outdoor access.
☀️ Free-Range Eggs
Chickens usually have some access to the outdoors, allowing for more natural movement and behaviors.
🌱 Pasture-Raised Eggs
Often considered one of the highest quality options. Hens spend significant time outdoors, forage naturally for bugs and plants, and typically have much more space to roam.
🚫🌽 Organic Eggs
Come from hens fed certified organic feed that is non-GMO and grown without synthetic pesticides or herbicides. Organic hens are also cage-free by USDA standards and cannot be routinely given antibiotics or hormones.
